Ministry of Youth affarirs and Sports announced that Rio Olympics hero’s, PV Sindhu, Sakshi malik, Dipa Karmakar adn Jitu Rai will be conferred with Prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratan award on 29 August 2016.
While PV Sindhu bacame first every female to win Silver medal in for India at Olympics, Sakshi won bronze medal in wrestling. Dipa karmakar finished at 4th place in Vault finals of Gymnastic which in itself is a big achievement for “alien sports” in India. Jitu Rai reached final of shooting event and failed to finish at podium but he is consistent in last few years and which in turn gave him this award.
Along with Dipa, her coach Bishweshwar Nandi is also being conferred with Dronacharya Award.
