Shillong 31 st August: Shillong Lajong FC edged Nangkiew Irat Sports Club by a score line

of 1-0 today in the Gionee Shillong Premier League encounter at the JN Stadium.

Lalrammuana scored the winning goal for Lajong in the 89th minute of the match. With

this win, the defending champions are at the top of the table with 7 points from 3

matches.

Both teams struggled to find their rhythm in the first half and did not create good

chances in front of goal. After a goalless first half, both sides played a much better game

in the second half. Lajong had many chances in front of goal but Nangkiew Irat did well

to deny them the goal.

Nangkiew worked hard to upset the Reds but lacked the creativity in going forward.

The Reds came very close in taking the lead when Samuel Lalmuanpuia fed a good ball

to Sheen Sohktung who then crossed the ball to find Lalrammuana but the latter’s shot

on goal was collected by the Nangkiew keeper in the 63rd minute.

Another chance for Lajong came in the 79th minute when Samuela made a good run and

took a shot at goal but his shot was blocked by the Nangkiew defender.

In the closing stages of the match, plenty of chances came in for Lajong but were not

able to convert those chances. Then finally in the 89th minute when the game was

heading to full time, Lajong got a corner kick. Jacob took the shoot which found

Lalrammuana who then headed the ball into the net to score the only goal of the match.

Shillong Lajong FC will now play their next match against Nongkrem SC on the 3rd

September.
