Delhi girls and Telangana boys progress to pre-quarterfinals with perfect records

Hyderabad, 4^th October 2016: Four days into the 43^rd Arise Steel Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship 2016 and things are looking clearer with the knockout stages around the corner. There was joy for the home crowd today morning as the Telangana boys advanced to Level 1 of the tournament after beating Chandigarh 66-32. Centre Harsh Hooda top scored again for Telangana with 13 points. The Punjab girls and boys also moved up to the Level 1, both defeating their West Bengal counterparts by comfortable margins.

Mr Kanna Phaneendra, Chairman of Suneendra Sports Corporation and owner of one of the top three horse polo clubs in Asia was the special guest invitee this morning.

Later in the evening, Mr Chander Mukhi Sharma, Secretary-General, Basketball Federation of India was witness to the final Level 2 qualifying match between Telangana and Punjab boys.

The Delhi girls fought a close battle against Andhra Pradesh, who recovered from a poor first quarter showing and fought their way back into the contest. But Delhi held on and advanced to level 1 with a 41-38 win, on the back of Trishala’s consistent scoring (21 pts) throughout the game. In Group A of Level 1, Rajasthan girls pulled away late for a 26-23 win against BFI-Madhya Pradesh.

In the second half of the day, the Tamil Nadu girls won a thriller against Kerala that was decided in the final minutes. Despite Kerala’s size, Tamil Nadu stuck to their strategy of team rebounding and running the breaks. TN executed calmly down the stretch and pulled off a 61-57 victory. In other level 1 boys’ games, Chhattisgarh blew out Maharashtra 60 to 33, while Uttar Pradesh knocked out Kerala from the tournament with a 60-16 win.
