GOA: The inaugural BRICS U-17 Football Cup came to an end today amongst great fanfare. The final match day of the competition saw a keenly contested match between Russia and China with Russia prevailing by two goals to one to claim the third palce. The second match of the day, the finals of the tournament was contested between Brazil and South Africa. It was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators. Shri. Manohar Parrikar, the Union Defense Minister was the Chief Guest, Smt. Mridula Sinha, The Governor of Goa and Shri. Vijay Goel, the Union Sports Minister were the guests of honor. A large number of dignitaries from the Union Government and Government of Goa were in attendance.
Brazil, in a spectacular display of dexterity dominated the match from the very beginning, winning the coveted BRICS U-17 Football trophy by five goals to one. Shri. Manohar Parrikar, the honorable Defense Minister presented the winning team with the Gold medals and the coveted BRICS U-17 Football Trophy to the Brazilian team. The Silver and the Bronze medals were presented to South Africa and Russia respectively, by Shri. Vijay Goel, the Union Sports Minister and Smt. Mridula Sinha, the Governor of Goa.
The finals culminated in a breathtaking display of dance and music in a colorful closing ceremony. The theme of the ceremony was based on Five elements- Five countries. The ceremony endeavored to portray the essence of the collective power of the Five elements( Fire, Water, Air, Aether& Space), symbolizing the collective strength of the Five BRICS nations.
