Bharat Petroleum and Indian Oil score big wins in 121st Beighton Cup

KOLKATA: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) rejoiced a 12-1 win against Kolkata Police AC in a Group A match of the ongoing 121st Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament.

The match which was played at the SAI Complex in Kolkata on Wednesday morning saw Ehtesham Khan, Manpreet Singh, Amir Khan, Harmanpreet, Lalit Upadhyay, Varun Kumar, Hari Prasad and Tushar Khandekar score a goal each while Sher Singh and Jarnail Singh net two goals. The policemen could only net a single goal courtesy Atanu Saha against the tough defence put up by BPCL.

On the other hand, in a match held in the afternoon, Bhubaneswar Hostel beat Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) 3-1. For Bhubaneswar Hostel Teophil Kujur (2) and Suman Kujur found the back of the net after Nithin Timmaiah put CAG into the lead.

Meanwhile, Indian Oil (IOC) trounce Central Secretariat 8-1 in the last match of the day. Sanjay Kumar (3), Raghunath V.R. (2), Gurjinder Singh (2) and Khotajit Singh were on target for Indian Oil while Central Secretariat pulled a goal back through their skipper Jayesh Jadhav.
