KOLKATA: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) beat Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala 6-3, in a quarterfinal league match of the 121st Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament at the SAI Complex in Kolkata on Thursday to register their second win. BPCL had beaten Kolkata Police 12-1 in the first match.
For BPCL Amir Khan scored a hat-trick while Sher Singh, Lalit Upadhyay and Harmanpreet netted a goal each. RCF Kapurthala, on the other hand, did not go down without a fight as they scored through Simrandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Karanpreet Singh. With this win BPCL have qualified for semifinals of the competition.
In today’s second match defending champions Punjab National Bank eased past Bhubaneswar Hostel 5-2. Sukhdeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Gurjinder Singh, Gagandeep Singh, and Shamsher Singh were on target for PNB while Nilamsanjib Xess and Alok Barla pulled a couple of goals back for Bhubaneswar Hostel.
In another game, Eastern Railway (ERSA) beat Punjab & Sind Bank 6-4. Silanand Lakra (2), Saurav Kumar Singh, Alsam Lakra, Dipak Kullua and Mohammad Riyazuddin got the goals for Eastern Railway and for PNB Gaganpreet Singh (2), Ramandeep Singh and Paramjit Singh found the back of the net.
