Army XI, ONGC starts with win in 121st Beighton Cup

KOLKATA: Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala went goal crazy in the ongoing 121st Beighton Cup, smashing Kolkata Police AC 12-0 in a quarterfinal round match on Friday.

Ajmeer Singh (3), Deepak Kumar (2), Karanpal Singh (2), Pardeep Singh, Sankalp Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Gouravjit Singh found the back of the net in a one-sided match at SAI Complex at Kolkata.

In other matches, Army XI beat Central Secretariat 5-3 with Ramandeep Singh (2), A.J. Rakesh, Gurpinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh getting onto the score-sheet for Army, who trail 2-3 at half time.

K.B. Ponnana, Vinayak and M. Hassan Basha got the goals for Central Secretariat.

In another fixture, ONGC breezed past Eastern Railway 5-2. Diwakar Ram netted a brace for ONGC while Gurwinder Chandi, Ajay Yadav and P. Machaiah each struck solitary goals before Sulamand Lakra and Gunjan pulled a couple of goals back for Eastern Railway.
