Perth (Australia), 4 October 2017: India ‘A’ Men’s Hockey Team have qualified for the next round of the 2017 Men’s Australian Hockey League after finishing second in Pool B.
The top two teams from Pool A and Pool B have qualified for the second stage of the tournament where the four teams will be placed in Pool C, and will play two matches against teams who have qualified from the other Pool.
The top two teams from Pool C will then face off in the final match of 2017 Men’s Australian League, and the remaining two teams will play for 3rd/4th place classification match.
New South Wales and India have qualified as top two teams from Pool B and will be up against Pool A’s top two teams, Victoria and Queensland.
In Pool B, India finished the first round with a tally of 7 points from four matches with two wins, one draw and one loss. The team started their AHL campaign on a high with a 4-1 win against Western Australia but lost to New South Wales 0-1 in the second match. The third match saw India playing out a 1-1 draw against Northern Territory before coming back to win the fourth match 2-0 against Australian Capital Territory, to register their place in the next round.
Whereas, New South Wales finished the first round with 12 points and are the only team in the tournament with a 100% win record winning all their four matches.
In Pool A, Victoria finished as the top placed team accumulating 10 points from four matches whereas Queensland finished second with 9 points.
The India A Men’s Team will now face Victoria on Thursday5th October 2017 at 1530hrs IST and Queensland on Friday6th October 2017 at 1330hrs IST.
