Dylan Floro, 32, brings a wealth of experience to Washington, having recorded a 5-6 win-loss record with a 4.76 ERA and seven saves in 62 relief appearances in 2023. His journey in the last season included stints with Miami and Minnesota, during which he struck out 58 batters in 56.2 innings. Floro’s record is notable; he is one of only eight pitchers in Major League Baseball to have achieved at least 30 saves and 25 holds since 2021, a feat that places him alongside new teammate Kyle Finnegan. Floro also boasts an impressive record in limiting home runs, ranking seventh among Major League relievers since 2020 in this metric.
Over his eight-season Major League career, which includes time with the Rays, Cubs, Reds, Dodgers, Marlins, and Twins, Floro has accumulated a 26-22 record with a 3.42 ERA and 32 saves across 330 games. His postseason experience is substantial, including contributions to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2020 World Series title and the 2018 National League pennant. Floro, a native of Merced, California, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft from California State University – Fullerton.
Nick Senzel, 28, joins the Nationals after a career-best season with the Cincinnati Reds, where he hit 13 home runs and matched a career-high with 42 RBI in 104 games. His versatility on the field is remarkable, having played multiple positions last season, including third base, left field, center field, right field, second base, and designated hitter. Senzel particularly excelled against left-handed pitching, with nine of his 13 home runs coming off southpaws.
His accolades include being named the National League Player of the Week on April 30, leading in batting average, RBI, and runs scored during that period. Senzel’s strong finish to the 2023 season is also noteworthy, hitting .333 in his final 19 games. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Senzel was a high-profile draft pick, selected second overall in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Tennessee.
Jeter Downs, 25, leaves the Nationals having made a brief but impactful appearance in 2023, going 2-for-5 with one RBI, two stolen bases, and four runs scored in six games.
