PHOENIX  – Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson made a triumphant return to Phoenix, leading the Brooklyn Nets to a 116-112 victory over the Suns on Wednesday night. Their performances were a poignant reminder of their valuable contributions to the Suns before being traded last season in the deal that brought Kevin Durant to Phoenix.

Bridges scored 21 points, while Johnson added 15, showcasing their skills in a game that was as much about emotion as it was about basketball. Johnson expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he received from the Phoenix crowd, highlighting the enduring support from the Suns’ fans.

Cam Thomas spearheaded Brooklyn’s scoring with 24 points, playing a key role in the Nets’ seventh win in their last nine games. The game was tightly contested, with the Suns erasing an eight-point halftime deficit to take a two-point lead into the final quarter. However, the Nets regained control in the fourth, never relinquishing the lead once they recaptured it.

Spencer Dinwiddie’s crucial 3-pointer and subsequent layup in the closing minutes were pivotal, contributing to his 16-point total. Nets coach Jacque Vaughn praised his team’s collaborative effort and resilience in crucial moments of the game.

The Suns, featuring their All-Star trio of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal together for the first time this season, showed promise despite the loss. Booker led with 34 points and 12 assists, Durant added 27 points, and Beal, who has been limited by a sore back, contributed 14 points. Jusuf Nurkic also made a significant impact with 15 points and a season-high 22 rebounds.

Suns coach Frank Vogel and star player Devin Booker remained optimistic, recognizing the need for adjustment and improvement as the newly formed trio learns to play together.

The Nets established their presence early, leading by 15 points in the first half and entering the break with a 64-56 advantage, bolstered by Johnson’s perfect shooting, including three 3-pointers. Bridges and Johnson, vital members of the Suns’ 2021 Finals team, were warmly welcomed back with a tribute video, a moment both players will cherish.

Since the departure of Bridges and Johnson, the Suns have struggled to replicate their previous success, exiting in the second round of the playoffs last season.

Looking ahead, the Nets will face the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, while the Suns host the New York Knicks on Friday.
