Porto secured their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk at home on Wednesday. Galeno was the standout performer for Porto, scoring twice and providing two assists in a dominant display.

The victory placed Porto second in Group H with 12 points, tying with group winners Barcelona. Shakhtar, finishing third in the group, will now continue their European journey in the Europa League knockout round playoffs.

Galeno opened the scoring for Porto in the ninth minute, finding himself unmarked and tapping in from close range following a precise cross. Shakhtar Donetsk responded with Danylo Sikan’s equalizer in the 29th minute, but Galeno restored Porto’s lead shortly before halftime with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box.

In the second half, Galeno continued to impact the game, setting up Mehdi Taremi for Porto’s third goal in the 62nd minute. Although an own goal by Porto midfielder Stephen Eustaquio in the 72nd minute narrowed the margin, Porto quickly regained control. Pepe added the fourth goal, once again assisted by Galeno, and Francisco Conceicao scored the fifth goal in the 82nd minute, sealing a decisive win for Porto.

Eguinaldo managed to score a late consolation goal for Shakhtar Donetsk, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.

Porto’s victory was a showcase of their attacking prowess and Galeno’s remarkable individual performance. With this win, Porto demonstrated their quality and resilience, ensuring their progression in the Champions League, while Shakhtar Donetsk will have to shift their focus to the Europa League.
