SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a high-scoring thriller on Thursday night, the Sacramento Kings, led by De’Aaron Fox’s 41 points, secured a 128-123 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite a remarkable 43-point performance by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder could not overcome the Kings’ late-game execution.
Sacramento faced a late scare as Oklahoma City, trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, narrowed the gap to just two points with a 13-2 run. However, Fox and rookie Keegan Murray responded with crucial baskets, and the Kings enhanced their defense in the closing moments. This marked Fox’s third 40-point game of the season, complemented by seven assists and three rebounds.
The game highlighted a compelling duel between two of the NBA’s top young point guards. Gilgeous-Alexander excelled at the free-throw line, going 16 for 18, while Fox demonstrated his range with five 3-pointers.
Coming off a loss to the Clippers, the Kings extended their winning streak against the Thunder to eight games. Domantas Sabonis was a significant contributor for Sacramento with 18 points and 16 rebounds, playing a pivotal role in the opening game of a six-game homestand. Malik Monk also added 18 points, and Keon Ellis had a career-high 17.
Oklahoma City, entering the game with four wins in their last five, remained competitive, largely due to Gilgeous-Alexander’s effort. He scored 14 points in the first quarter alone, ending the period with a driving layup to give the Thunder a 30-29 edge.
The Kings shot over 50% from the field in the first half, while the Thunder kept pace, in part thanks to Gilgeous-Alexander’s 20 points and their efficiency at the foul line, making 15 of 17 attempts.
Sacramento established a double-digit lead late in the first half following a three-point play by Fox and entered the break with a 59-53 advantage.
Looking ahead, the Thunder will face a tough challenge against Denver on Saturday night. The Kings, riding the momentum of their latest win, will host the Utah Jazz on the same night, looking to continue their successful run at home.
