The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has unveiled the Indian team set to compete in the upcoming Davis Cup World Group I Play-off tie against Pakistan, scheduled for the 3rd and 4th of February, 2024.
The selection, confirmed after a virtual meeting held by the AITA on December 16, includes a mix of seasoned athletes and emerging talent. The team was chosen based on various factors such as players’ rankings, availability, performance, and current form.
The Indian squad will be spearheaded by the following players:
1. Ramkumar Ramanathan
2. N. Sriram Balaji
3. Saketh Myneni
4. Yuki Bhambri
5. Niki Poonacha
6. Digvijay Pratap Singh (Reserve)
Veteran player Rohit Rajpal will captain the team, while Zeeshan Ali will serve as the coach. This strategic selection indicates AITA’s confidence in a blend of experience and youth to bring home a victory.
The tie against Pakistan is crucial for India’s position in the Davis Cup standings. AITA’s selection committee, chaired by Shri Nandan Bal and involving key members such as Shri Balram Singh, Shri Sajayalakshmy, and Hon. Secretary General Shri Anil Dhupar, has put forth a strong team they believe capable of securing India’s spot in the World Group I.
