PORTLAND, Ore. – Luka Doncic delivered a sensational triple-double performance, scoring 40 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists, to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a convincing 131-120 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night. Doncic, who scored 30 of his points in the first half, secured his fifth triple-double of the season and the 61st of his career, underscoring his crucial role in the Mavericks’ success.

Doncic attributed his achievement to team effort, stating, “It’s everybody, it’s not just me. All my teammates helped me get to that.” He also highlighted the strategic change by Portland in the second half, which saw them double-teaming him, leading to more playmaking opportunities for his teammates.

Tim Hardaway Jr. played a significant role in supporting Doncic, adding 25 points for Dallas. Dante Exum and Derrick Jones Jr. also contributed strongly, each scoring 18 points. Doncic praised his teammates for stepping up, especially when he was double-teamed, noting the open shots created from such situations.

On the Trail Blazers’ side, Anfernee Simons led the scoring with 31 points, complemented by eight rebounds and six assists. Jerami Grant, returning after a four-game absence due to a concussion, scored 27 points. Grant expressed his satisfaction at being back on the court but lamented the team’s inability to contain Doncic effectively.

The game had a challenging start for Dallas, losing starter center Dereck Lively to a left ankle injury in the first quarter. Despite this setback, the Mavericks outscored Portland 38-24 in the second quarter, showcasing their depth and resilience. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd praised the character and trust within the team, emphasizing the ease of following a leader like Doncic.

Doncic’s performance was particularly notable in the first period, where he scored 22 points. The Trail Blazers initially led with a 39-36 advantage going into the second quarter. There was a moment of controversy when Doncic was called for a technical foul for shooting after the buzzer, but the call was subsequently rescinded.

With a commanding 74-63 lead at halftime, Dallas maintained their momentum to secure the win.
