INGLEWOOD, CA — The Los Angeles Rams secured a crucial 28-20 victory over the Washington Commanders, bolstering their playoff aspirations. Quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson for touchdowns, while running back Kyren Williams contributed 152 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The win at SoFi Stadium propelled the Rams (7-7) into one of the NFC’s wild-card slots, joining the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. Los Angeles has rebounded impressively from a 3-6 record at their bye week, winning four out of their last five games.

Stafford passed for 258 yards, and Kupp’s standout performance included eight catches for 111 yards. His 62-yard touchdown catch was a highlight, showcasing the Rams’ offensive prowess.

The Commanders (4-10), now on a five-game losing streak, were unable to sustain their momentum despite a late surge led by backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brissett passed for 124 yards and two touchdowns after replacing starter Sam Howell.

Washington’s offense initially struggled under Howell, who threw for 102 yards and a touchdown. The Commanders’ playoff hopes were dashed with this loss, marking another season without postseason action.

Despite the Commanders’ late efforts, including two touchdown catches by Curtis Samuel and a 141-yard receiving performance by Terry McLaurin, the Rams’ defense held firm. Los Angeles survived a potential comeback after Brissett led Washington on two scoring drives in the final minutes.

The Rams’ only first-half touchdowns were Williams’ 2-yard run and Stafford’s 23-yard pass to Robinson. The Commanders responded with McLaurin’s 29-yard touchdown catch and Samuel’s late score, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Both teams faced injuries, with the Commanders losing punter Tress Way and left tackle Charles Leno Jr., while the Rams were without cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and right tackle Rob Havenstein.

The Rams’ victory was marked by strong performances from key players and solid defensive stands, particularly in the crucial final moments of the game. They will host the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, while the Commanders travel to face the New York Jets on Sunday. For Los Angeles, this win is a significant step towards securing a playoff berth in a tightly contested NFC.
