ROME – Internazionale fortified their position atop Serie A with a clinical 2-0 win against Lazio, extending their lead to four points. The triumph was marked by goals from Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram, contributing to Inter’s impressive run of seven wins in their last eight league games.

Despite Lazio’s aggressive start and dominance in possession, Inter capitalized on a defensive lapse. Adam Marusic’s misplaced backward pass was seized upon by Martínez, who deftly navigated past goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to score in the 40th minute. This goal marked Martínez’s 15th in the league, leading the scorers’ list.

Post-halftime, Lazio sought an equalizer with Nicolo Rovella’s effort from inside the box, only to be thwarted by Inter’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer. The tide turned further in Inter’s favor when Thuram doubled their lead in the 66th minute, firing a low shot into the far post after receiving Nicolò Barella’s pinpoint pass.

Lazio’s challenges intensified as Manuel Lazzari received a straight red card for dissent, leaving the hosts with ten men.

Sommer’s performance for Inter was historic, achieving 11 games without conceding. He became the first goalkeeper to register at least ten clean sheets in his first 15 Serie A matches since the inception of the three-point era in 1994-95.

Notably, no team in Europe’s top five leagues has recorded more clean sheets than Inter this season, underscoring their defensive solidity.

Simone Inzaghi, Inter’s coach, expressed satisfaction with the team’s comprehensive performance, emphasizing the importance of unity and continual improvement.

The victory propels Inter to 41 points from 16 games, distancing themselves from second-placed Juventus, who sit on 37 points following a draw with Genoa. Lazio, meanwhile, drops to 11th with 21 points, facing the setback of their unbeaten home record since August being brokIen.

nternazionale’s win at Lazio not only strengthens their lead in Serie A but also highlights their tactical discipline and individual brilliance. With a robust defense and prolific scoring, Inter continues to solidify their status as formidable contenders for the Serie A title.
