WINNIPEG, MB — The Montreal Canadiens clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at the Canada Life Centre on Monday, with Justin Barron scoring the decisive power-play goal in overtime. The Canadiens’ triumph was underpinned by a strong team effort and crucial saves from goaltender Jake Allen.

Barron’s winning goal came just 1:09 into the overtime period, finding the glove side from the high slot. The opportunity arose after the Jets’ Nikolaj Ehlers was penalized for tripping late in the third period.

Josh Anderson made significant contributions for Montreal, scoring a goal and assisting another, helping the Canadiens (14-13-4) to earn points in four of their last five games. Jake Allen, who had been seeking a win since late October, made 30 saves, marking a crucial turning point in his season.

The Jets (18-9-3), despite the loss, have been performing well in December, with a record of 6-1-1 this month. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for Winnipeg.

Anderson’s goal, which opened the scoring in the second period, was a stroke of luck as the puck deflected off his leg and into the net. Christian Dvorak later doubled Montreal’s lead with a power-play goal, capitalizing on a loose puck in a scramble in front of the net.

Winnipeg’s coach Rick Bowness challenged the play for a missed game stoppage, but the goal was upheld after video review. Gabriel Vilardi then narrowed the gap for the Jets just before the second intermission, skillfully tucking the puck in at the left post.

The Jets’ Cole Perfetti tied the game in the third period, burying a rebound in front, setting the stage for the game’s dramatic conclusion in overtime.

The victory is a significant morale booster for the Canadiens, who have shown resilience and an ability to capitalize on opportunities. The Jets, on the other hand, will look to bounce back from this setback and continue their strong run this season.
