Nottingham, England – Nottingham Forest has officially announced the departure of Steve Cooper from his role as head coach. This decision concludes Cooper’s two-year tenure with the club, a period marked by both notable achievements and recent struggles.

A Period of Mixed Results

Steve Cooper, 44, faced dismissal following a challenging run for Nottingham Forest, with the team securing only one win in their last 13 matches, including five defeats in the last six games. This downturn in form has left Forest precariously positioned at 17th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.

Cooper’s Legacy at Nottingham Forest

Despite the recent downturn, Cooper’s time at the club was initially marked by significant success. Appointed in September 2021, when the team was at the bottom of the Championship table, Cooper led Nottingham Forest to a fourth-place finish that season. His leadership was pivotal in ending the club’s 23-year absence from the top flight, achieved by winning the Championship playoff final against Huddersfield Town. Last season, under Cooper’s guidance, Forest delivered several memorable performances, including victories over Liverpool and Arsenal, and a draw against the eventual Premier League champions, Manchester City.

The Club’s Gratitude

Nottingham Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Cooper for his remarkable contribution. Marinakis emphasized Cooper’s role in guiding the club back to the Premier League as an iconic moment in its history. He also acknowledged Cooper’s dedication, commitment, and the strong connection he forged with the club’s supporters and the city of Nottingham. Marinakis assured that Cooper would always remain a friend of the club and be welcomed at The City Ground.

Looking to the Future

In the wake of Cooper’s departure, reports indicate that Nuno Espirito Santo is the leading candidate to take over as head coach. Nuno, 49, has previous Premier League experience, having managed Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur. He recently concluded a 16-month stint with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.

A New Chapter for Nottingham Forest

As Nottingham Forest navigates this transitional phase, the focus is on stabilizing the team’s performance in the Premier League and securing their status in England’s top flight. The appointment of a new head coach will be crucial in shaping the future trajectory of the club, as they look to build on the foundations laid by Cooper and adapt to new challenges ahead.
