In a recent roster update, the Chicago White Sox have made a strategic move by selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher Josimar Cousin from Class AA Birmingham. Concurrently, the team has designated fellow right-hander Luis Patiño for assignment.

Cousin, 25, has shown promise in his journey through the minor leagues. Last season, he posted a 5.56 ERA with 47 strikeouts over 55.0 innings, appearing in 15 games across three levels: the Arizona Complex League White Sox, Class A Winston-Salem, and Birmingham. He also made an impression in the Arizona Fall League with Glendale, participating in six games, including four starts.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 185 pounds, Cousin signed with the White Sox as an international free agent on May 25, 2023. The Havana, Cuba native brings a rich background in baseball, having pitched for six seasons in the Cuban League. Moreover, his experience extends to the international stage, where he played for the Cuban national team across various age levels for ten seasons, notably alongside White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. from U-15 to U-18.

On the other hand, 24-year-old Patiño departs after a season with the White Sox, during which he recorded a 3.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 17.2 innings in seven appearances, including one start. Patiño joined the White Sox in a trade from Tampa Bay on August 1 in exchange for cash considerations.

This move keeps the White Sox’s 40-man roster at full capacity. It reflects the organization’s ongoing efforts to refine and strengthen its pitching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season. Cousin’s promotion to the major league roster is a significant step in his career and showcases the White Sox’s commitment to nurturing talent within their system. Fans and the team alike will be keenly watching Cousin’s transition to the major leagues and his potential impact on the White Sox’s pitching rotation.
