The Los Angeles Clippers capped off a successful December with a 117-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, showcasing their improved synergy, particularly with James Harden’s integration into the lineup. This victory marks a significant turnaround from their struggles earlier in November.

Paul George led the scoring for the Clippers with 23 points, while Harden contributed 16 points and 13 assists. The Clippers’ impressive run of 11-2 in December, the best record in the Western Conference for the month, is a testament to their resilience and adaptability, as noted by coach Tyronn Lue. The team’s ability to work through the adversity faced in November, especially during a six-game losing streak, was crucial to their turnaround.

Entering December three games under .500, the Clippers embarked on a nine-game winning streak, their longest since the 2015-16 season. Despite the absence of Kawhi Leonard due to a left hip contusion, Harden stepped up, averaging 20.5 points in Leonard’s absence, which is above his season average.

Harden reflected on the team’s journey, acknowledging that the process of gelling together wasn’t instant and that there’s still room for improvement. His role became more prominent in Leonard’s absence, focusing on scoring and playmaking. The Clippers are learning and adapting with each game, finding joy in their winning streak.

Ivica Zubac also made a notable contribution with a season-high 20 rebounds and 15 points, marking his fifth double-double in the last seven games. The team had a balanced scoring approach, with seven players scoring in double figures.

For the Grizzlies, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marcus Smart each scored 22 points, while Ja Morant added 19 points and 10 assists. Morant’s return from a 25-game suspension has seen him average 26.8 points in five games, bringing a significant boost to the Grizzlies’ offense.

The Clippers maintained control for most of the game, with a notable 96-75 lead early in the fourth quarter. However, the Grizzlies attempted a comeback, cutting the deficit to eight points before the Clippers secured their lead again.

At 19-12, the Clippers now lead the Pacific Division and sit fourth in the Western Conference. They will next host the Miami Heat on Monday, while the Grizzlies will face the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. This game not only highlights the Clippers’ successful adaptation with Harden but also their ability to sustain momentum even without key players like Leonard.
