DENVER – The Denver Broncos, led by quarterback Jarrett Stidham in his first start replacing Russell Wilson, emerged victorious with a 16-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the team’s elimination from playoff contention, the win brought a positive end to their season.

Stidham, who had not started an NFL game since his time at Auburn in 2018, threw for 224 yards and a touchdown. His performance, marked by both solid and shaky moments, was supported by a strong defensive showing. The Broncos’ defense forced a turnover and limited the Chargers to just 2-of-11 on third-down conversions.

The Broncos’ offense, however, continued to struggle in the red zone and finding a consistent ground game. Coach Sean Payton acknowledged Stidham’s composure and efficiency, but the team’s offensive woes, particularly in scoring situations, remained a concern.

The Chargers, with a record of 5-11, started backup quarterback Easton Stick for the third consecutive game due to Justin Herbert’s injury. Stick finished with 220 yards passing but couldn’t lead the Chargers to a victory.

Denver’s defense and special teams made pivotal plays, including blocking a field goal attempt and thwarting a fake punt. The Broncos capitalized on a Chargers turnover in the fourth quarter, converting it into a field goal that extended their lead.

The Broncos were without key receivers Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims Jr., but Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Jerry Jeudy stepped up in their absence. Humphrey’s 54-yard catch-and-run touchdown was a highlight of the game.

Wilson, benched in favor of Stidham, was supportive from the sidelines. His future with the Broncos remains uncertain, especially given the discussions around altering his contract.

Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack reached a career milestone, recording his 100th sack and achieving a new career-best with 16 sacks this season.

The Broncos faced injuries during the game, with right tackle Mike McGlinchey and special teams player Delarrin Turner-Yell leaving due to injuries.

Looking ahead, the Broncos will face the Las Vegas Raiders, while the Chargers will host the Kansas City Chiefs in their final games of the regular season.
