FC Cincinnati has made a significant move in the MLS transfer market by securing the services of US men’s national team center back Miles Robinson. The club announced on Wednesday that Robinson, departing from Atlanta United, has signed a contract that runs through the 2024 MLS season, with an option for 2025.
General Manager Chris Albright expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled that Miles chose to continue his career in Cincinnati. He is an elite defender with a dynamic skillset who already has an incredible amount of MLS and international experience.”
Robinson, 26, brings a wealth of experience to FC Cincinnati. In his tenure with Atlanta United from 2017 to 2023, he made a notable impact, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists in 123 matches. His performance earned him two appearances on the MLS Best XI and finalist nominations for MLS Defender of the Year in 2019 and 2021.
Internationally, Robinson has been a solid presence for the USMNT, scoring three times in 27 appearances and contributing to victories in one Nations League and one Gold Cup title. His promising trajectory faced a setback when an Achilles injury sidelined him from the 2022 World Cup, but he has since recovered.
Robinson shared his enthusiasm about joining FC Cincinnati: “I’m very excited to be signing for FC Cincinnati. This is an amazing organization from top to bottom, and I will do everything in my power to win more trophies for the passionate fans and outstanding people of this city. I’m ecstatic to play my first home game at TQL Stadium.”
FC Cincinnati, coming off a triumphant 2023 season as Supporters’ Shield champions, now boasts two USMNT center backs, with Robinson joining Matt Miazga. The team is adjusting from the departure of Yerson Mosquera, who returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers after his loan.
Looking ahead to 2024, FC Cincinnati is set for a promising start. They will make their debut in the Concacaf Champions Cup on February 22 against Jamaican side Cavalier FC, followed by their regular-season opener at home against Toronto FC on February 25. Robinson’s addition is expected to significantly bolster the team’s defensive line-up, enhancing their prospects in the upcoming season.
