The Memphis Grizzlies overcame the Los Angeles Lakers 127-113 on Friday night, led by Jaren Jackson Jr.’s 31 points, which included five 3-pointers, and Marcus Smart’s 29 points with a season-high eight 3-pointers. This win marked only the second in six games for the Grizzlies, but it was a significant one as they managed to break a streak of home losses against the Lakers.

Desmond Bane contributed 24 points and 13 assists, while Ja Morant added 21 points. The Grizzlies’ starting lineup was particularly effective from beyond the arc, combining for 21 of the team’s season-high 23 3-pointers. Ziaire Williams also played a crucial role, scoring 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Grizzlies pull away from the Lakers.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 32 and 31 points, respectively. However, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent the Lakers’ fourth consecutive loss and 10th in the last 13 games. Austin Reaves had 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, but the Lakers still fell short, continuing their struggles in a stretch of games primarily in Los Angeles.

The Lakers were without regular starters D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura, missing due to injuries. Memphis overcame its own challenges, including 19 turnovers, to seize control in the game’s final stretch, highlighted by Jackson’s fifth 3-pointer.

Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins received a technical foul during the third quarter but was not ejected, despite aggressively arguing with officials. Lakers coach Darvin Ham, under scrutiny due to the team’s recent struggles, expressed his commitment to improving the team’s performance amid criticism of his rotations and tactics.

This victory for the Grizzlies showcased their ability to maintain composure and capitalize on their long-range shooting. The Lakers, facing ongoing challenges, will look to regroup as they continue their series of games in Los Angeles.

The Grizzlies will face the Phoenix Suns next, while the Lakers will go up against the Clippers in their upcoming matchups. This game not only highlights the Grizzlies’ offensive prowess but also underscores the Lakers’ need to find solutions to turn their season around.
