ANAHEIM, CA — The Los Angeles Angels have secured right-handed pitcher Zach Plesac on a one-year deal worth $1 million, adding depth to their pitching staff for the upcoming season. As part of the roster management, left-handed pitcher Adam Kolarek has been outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake to maintain the 40-man roster.

Plesac, 28, began his major league career with a strong debut against the Boston Red Sox in May 2019. He quickly established himself, finishing his rookie season with a 3.81 ERA, ranking him second among American League rookies with at least 100 innings pitched. Plesac continued to impress in the shortened 2020 season, posting a 2.28 ERA, the third-best in the American League for pitchers with a minimum of 50 innings.

The Indiana native, drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 12th round in 2016 from Ball State University, has recorded a 26-27 record and 4.20 ERA with 359 strikeouts in his five seasons with the Guardians. In 2023, he played five games for the major league team and 19 games for Triple-A Columbus, where he showcased his abilities with a complete game victory in May.

The Angels anticipate Plesac’s addition will bolster their rotation, providing both starting and long-relief pitching options. His proven track record in the major leagues offers a promising outlook for the Angels’ pitching corps in the next MLB season.
