DETROIT — The Detroit Lions ended their regular season on a high note, securing a franchise record-tying 12th win with a 30-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. However, the triumph was marred by the injury to standout rookie tight end Sam LaPorta, who suffered a potentially serious knee injury. Despite this setback, the Lions (12-5) are poised for their first home playoff game since the 1993 season at Ford Field.

The Lions clinched the No. 3 seed in the NFC, winning their first division title in three decades. While they had hoped to move up to the No. 2 seed, the Dallas Cowboys secured that spot with a win over Washington. As a result, Detroit will host the Los Angeles Rams and their former quarterback, Matthew Stafford, in the playoffs next Sunday night.

LaPorta, a key offensive weapon for Detroit, set an NFL record for receptions by a rookie tight end with 86 catches. His presence will be crucial for the Lions as they prepare for their playoff run, aiming for their first postseason victory since the 1957 league title.

Quarterback Jared Goff delivered a strong performance, throwing for 320 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions’ offense has been a bright spot this season, but LaPorta’s injury could be a significant concern.

The Vikings, on the other hand, concluded their season at 7-10, missing the playoffs amidst a tough stretch marked by the loss of quarterback Kirk Cousins to a torn Achilles tendon. Nick Mullens, starting in Cousins’ absence, threw for 396 yards but was intercepted twice in the game’s closing stages.

Justin Jefferson, despite missing seven games, showcased his talent with 12 catches for 192 yards and a touchdown. However, his efforts weren’t enough to overcome the Lions’ determination.

The Vikings will now reflect on their season, looking to build on the successes of the previous year under coach Kevin O’Connell.

As for the Lions, they enter the playoffs with momentum and high hopes, looking to capitalize on their regular-season success. Their matchup against the Rams promises to be a high-stakes affair, with Detroit eager to prove their mettle on the postseason stage.
