DENVER, CO — The Colorado Rapids have finalized the transfer of midfielder Max Alves to Cuiabá, a Brazilian top-flight club. The 22-year-old originally joined the Rapids in January 2022 from Flamengo as part of the MLS U22 Initiative.
During his tenure with the Rapids, Alves made 38 appearances, including 16 starts, contributing one goal and one assist. His departure marks the end of a brief yet impactful stint with the MLS club.
Rapids president Pádraig Smith expressed gratitude towards Alves for his contributions to the team: “We wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career.”
The move comes as the Rapids are gearing up for a new season under head coach Chris Armas. The team is looking to make strides in the MLS, starting with an away game against the Portland Timbers on February 24.
Max Alves’s transfer to Cuiabá represents both an opportunity for the young midfielder to continue his development in a familiar league and a strategic move by the Rapids as they reshape their squad for the upcoming season.
