NEW YORK — The Vancouver Canucks secured a 6-3 victory against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, with Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes playing pivotal roles. Pettersson notched four points, including two goals and two assists, while All-Star defenseman Hughes contributed with an assist and a plus-4 rating, leading the NHL with a plus-30.

Nils Hoglander scored two goals, and Brock Boeser added a goal and two assists, aiding the Canucks (26-11-3) to tie with the Rangers and Winnipeg Jets for the most wins in the NHL. Goaltender Thatcher Demko made 39 saves, further solidifying the win.

Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo’s triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, the Rangers (26-11-2) couldn’t match the Canucks’ intensity. Vincent Trocheck, Artemi Panarin, and Alexis Lafrenière each contributed two points for the Rangers, who struggled to replicate their early-season defensive success.

Canucks coach Rick Tocchet praised Hughes for his aggressive play, emphasizing the defenseman’s desire to take charge in crucial situations. The Rangers, missing key guard Damian Lillard, relied on Khris Middleton’s 23 points and Malik Beasley’s 17, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Vancouver’s offensive firepower.

The game saw the Canucks rebounding from a 77-46 halftime deficit with a 44-point third quarter, yet still maintaining their lead against the pressing Rangers. Tocchet highlighted his team’s ability to stay poised and not back off even under pressure.

Pettersson’s and Hoglander’s scoring prowess was on full display, with Hoglander’s between-the-legs goal drawing particular praise. The Canucks’ efficient shooting, combined with contributions from multiple players, showcased their potential as a cohesive and dynamic team.

For the Rangers, the loss was a reminder of the need for consistent defensive play and attention to detail, as emphasized by captain Jacob Trouba and coach Adrian Griffin.

The Canucks look forward to hosting the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, while the Rangers will host the Boston Celtics on Thursday, as both teams continue their regular-season campaigns.
