CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a commanding performance, the Sacramento Kings secured a 123-98 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. Keegan Murray led the charge with 25 points, closely followed by Domantas Sabonis who contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds, marking the Kings’ second straight win.

Sacramento’s offense was further bolstered by former Hornet Malik Monk, who added 20 points, and De’Aaron Fox with 19 points. Sabonis, apart from his double-double, also dished out seven assists, aiding the Kings to improve their record to 23-14. This win served as a sweet revenge for Sacramento, overturning a 111-104 defeat against Charlotte last week.

“We knew we owed them one,” Sacramento forward Trey Lyles stated, emphasizing the team’s determination to rectify their previous loss. Lyles himself chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Sacramento showcased their strength in teamwork, with effective ball-sharing leading to efficient scoring. “We’re a better team when we share the ball,” Lyles added, highlighting the synergy between key players like Sabonis, Fox, Murray, and Monk.

The Hornets, struggling with a 8-27 record, witnessed Miles Bridges leading their effort with 24 points. Terry Rozier contributed 22 points, with Brandon Miller and Nick Smith, Jr. scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. Injuries and illnesses have plagued Charlotte’s season, resulting in the loss of 157 man-games, affecting starters like LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward.

The Kings turned the game in their favor with a stunning 30-10 run in the second quarter, overcoming a 25-20 deficit to establish a 50-35 lead. This surge included a remarkable sequence of seven consecutive 3-pointers, three of which came from Fox.

Sacramento’s defensive efforts were also notable, particularly in the third quarter, where they went on an 11-point run, extending their lead to 84-62. Coach Mike Brown praised his team’s defensive performance and the significant impact of bench players like Monk and Lyles.

Looking ahead, the Kings will face Philadelphia on Friday, while the Hornets are set to play against San Antonio on the same night.
