LAS VEGAS — Alex Pietrangelo’s goal just 46 seconds into overtime led the Vegas Golden Knights to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday. Pietrangelo executed a perfect finish on a 2-on-1 rush with Mark Stone, showcasing the team’s offensive prowess in critical moments.

Jack Eichel played a pivotal role, scoring a goal and assisting in the game-winner, while Logan Thompson’s 32 saves were instrumental in securing the win for Vegas (24-13-5), which has now won two of its last three games.

Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy commended his team’s resilience against a strong Bruins side, emphasizing the playoff-style intensity of the match.

The Bruins (24-8-9), despite a solid performance from goalie Jeremy Swayman with 23 saves, faced their third consecutive loss, all extending beyond regulation. Bruins coach Jim Montgomery acknowledged the need for defensive improvements and praised Swayman’s efforts in goal.

Eichel’s third-period power-play goal broke the Golden Knights’ goal drought, redirecting a shot from Jonathan Marchessault. This goal was a significant momentum shift for Vegas after a tightly contested match.

Boston’s response came from Matt Grzelcyk, whose shot from the point deflected off Alec Martinez’s stick, tying the game. The Bruins pushed for a late-game advantage, pressuring Thompson with multiple shots but couldn’t find the winning goal.

The Golden Knights’ Ivan Barbashev had a chance to reclaim the lead, but Swayman’s remarkable save kept the Bruins in contention. The game’s high stakes were evident in both teams’ efforts, with Vegas ultimately emerging victorious.

Morgan Geekie of the Bruins reflected on the team’s determination, emphasizing that despite earning a point, the loss was still disappointing.

In team notes, the Golden Knights made roster adjustments, recalling defenseman Kaedan Korczak and forward Jonas Rondbjerg from the AHL. Pietrangelo’s overtime goal was his third for the Golden Knights, tying him for fourth in franchise history for overtime goals.

The game was notable as one of only three days in NHL history to feature six games decided in overtime. Bruins forward David Pastrnak was also a standout, with nine shots on goal.

The Golden Knights’ win underlines their ability to capitalize in crucial moments, while the Bruins will look to break their recent string of losses in upcoming matches.
