FC Dallas has re-signed veteran goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer for the 2024 MLS season, as announced by the club. Along with his role on the field, Maurer will also take on responsibilities in the club’s front office as a Player Development Executive.
Jimmy Maurer, 35, has been with FC Dallas since joining on a one-week loan in 2017. Over the years, he has made 71 appearances for the club, including 14 clean sheets. Maurer’s experience and leadership have been invaluable, particularly in the 2021 season, where he played 24 MLS regular season matches and recorded three clean sheets.
In 2023, Maurer featured for FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and played in five MLS regular season matches. His most notable performance came in 2020 during the MLS Cup Playoffs, where he recorded seven saves in his debut against the Portland Timbers and helped advance the team to the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Player Professional Development role is a new initiative allowing MLS clubs to designate one player per year in this position. It enables the player to develop skills in different parts of the club’s business, including coaching, scouting, front office duties, and diversity liaison. Maurer’s dual role reflects his extensive experience and the trust FC Dallas places in his capabilities both on and off the field.
FC Dallas is preparing for the upcoming 2024 MLS regular season, which will kick off on February 24 when they host the San Jose Earthquakes. Maurer’s re-signing and his new role in player development indicate the club’s commitment to leveraging his skills and experience in various capacities.
Maurer’s continuation with FC Dallas promises to be an asset, providing stability and expertise as the club embarks on the new season.
