The Capitals, who fell to 20-15-6, saw a glimpse of hope when Oshie scored in the second period. However, Shesterkin, bouncing back from a tough couple of games, made key saves to preserve the Rangers’ lead, including a crucial stop on Evgeny Kuznetsov in the dying seconds.

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette praised Shesterkin’s performance, acknowledging its importance in building something new for the team. The Capitals missed star forward Alex Ovechkin due to a lower-body injury.

Panarin’s goal marked his 400th point with the Rangers, making him the fastest player in team history to reach the milestone. Kaapo Kakko returned for the Rangers after missing 21 games, contributing with two shots on goal.

The Rangers’ victory was a much-needed boost, highlighting their potential when both their offense and defense click. The Capitals, despite the loss, showed resilience and will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
