DETROIT, MI – The Minnesota Timberwolves clinched a 124-117 win against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, led by Anthony Edwards’ stellar performance of 27 points and eight assists. Despite coach Chris Finch’s reservations about the team’s overall performance, the Timberwolves secured their third consecutive victory.
Karl-Anthony Towns matched Edwards’ scoring output with 27 points, while Jaden McDaniels contributed 23 points. Rudy Gobert added a double-double with 19 points and 16 assists, playing a key role in the team’s success.
Gobert acknowledged the team’s slow start but was pleased with how they improved throughout the game. The Timberwolves overcame their defensive struggles in the first half to limit the Pistons to 117 points by the end of the match.
The Pistons, under coach Monty Williams, are showing signs of growth despite their challenging season, marked by a 28-game losing streak that equaled an NBA record. Jaden Ivey, a bright spot for Detroit, matched his career-high with 32 points, leading the Pistons in scoring. Bojan Bogdanovic and Jalen Duren also made significant contributions, with Bogdanovic scoring 20 points and Duren adding a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Detroit’s efforts were notable, particularly in the third quarter when Ivey’s nine points helped narrow the gap to eight. However, the Timberwolves extended their lead in the fourth quarter, with McDaniels and Towns hitting crucial 3-pointers to secure the win.
The Pistons played without Cade Cunningham due to a knee injury and debuted Mike Muscala, who contributed three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Muscala and Danilo Gallinari, both acquired from the Washington Wizards, are expected to bring experience and savvy play to the young Pistons team.
Looking ahead, the Timberwolves face the Memphis Grizzlies at home, while the Pistons continue their six-game homestand against the Milwaukee Bucks. As the season progresses, the Timberwolves will aim to build on their winning streak, while the Pistons will focus on development and improving their record.
