SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks on a four-year Major League contract. The deal, worth $44 million, will see Hicks earn $6 million in 2024 and $12 million per season from 2025-2027. Additionally, Hicks will receive a one-time $2 million signing bonus.

Hicks, 27, has been a part of the Major Leagues for five seasons, playing for St. Louis from 2018 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2023, before joining Toronto in 2023. He has posted a 3.85 ERA, achieved 255 strikeouts, maintained a 1.30 WHIP, and secured 32 saves over 243.1 innings in 212 games, including eight starts.

In the last season, Hicks recorded 12 saves and a 3.29 ERA in 65 combined games between the Cardinals and Blue Jays. His performance last season included career-best stats like 81 strikeouts, an 11.1 K/9ip rate, and a 28.4% strikeout percentage.

A native of Houston, Texas, Hicks was initially drafted by St. Louis in the third round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft from Cypress Creek High School in Houston.

As part of the contract, Hicks is eligible for performance bonuses for innings pitched at the Major League level. These include increments for reaching between 100 to 200 innings pitched per season. Additionally, Hicks has committed to making donations to the Giants Community Fund over the duration of the contract.

To accommodate Hicks on the 40-man roster, RHP Devin Sweet has been claimed off waivers by Detroit. This acquisition by the Giants is a significant move to bolster their pitching roster, bringing in a player with a proven track record and potential for future contributions to the team’s success.
