CHICAGO, IL – In a thrilling finish, Seth Jones scored his first goal of the season just 22 seconds into overtime, propelling the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 victory against the New York Islanders at United Center on Friday. Jones’ long-awaited goal came as a relief, marking an end to his scoring drought.
For the Blackhawks (14-30-2), the win brought a positive note amidst a challenging stretch where they had lost four of their previous five games (1-3-1). Petr Mrazek, guarding the net, made 26 saves, contributing significantly to the victory.
The Islanders (19-15-11), despite a strong showing, couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, ending their four-game road trip without a win (0-3-1) and extending a difficult run where they have only one win in their last seven games.
Kyle Palmieri stood out for the Islanders with a goal and an assist, while Noah Dobson contributed two assists. Ilya Sorokin, in goal, made 20 saves. Lane Lambert, the Islanders’ coach, expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance and highlighted the need for improvement from key players.
Chicago’s offense was bolstered by Joey Anderson and Jason Dickinson, who each had a goal and an assist. Boris Katchouk also found the net, scoring his first goal of the season and tying the game in the second period.
The Islanders initially led with Brock Nelson scoring early in the first period. Chicago responded with vigor, with Anderson giving them a lead late in the second period. Dickinson extended this lead in the third period, but the Islanders fought back with goals from Bo Horvat and Palmieri, tying the game and forcing overtime.
Jones’ timely goal in overtime was a fitting end to a competitive game and a much-needed boost for the Blackhawks. The Islanders, meanwhile, face the challenge of regaining their form as they continue through the season.
