PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns, even without their All-Star Devin Booker due to a sore left hip, demonstrated their offensive prowess in a convincing 129-115 win against the Utah Jazz on Thursday night. Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal spearheaded the attack, scoring 31 and 30 points respectively, as the Suns maintained their lead from start to finish, capturing their third consecutive win and marking their 12th victory in the last 15 games.
This win also completed a season sweep for the Suns over the Jazz, highlighting Phoenix’s dominance in their head-to-head matchups. The Suns’ offense was on full display, shooting nearly 60% from the field, dishing out 37 assists against a mere 12 turnovers, and racking up 30 fast-break points. Such a performance underscored the team’s commitment to a cohesive, team-first approach as emphasized by Suns coach Frank Vogel.
Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 22 points, supported by John Collins and Collin Sexton, who contributed 21 and 19 points, respectively. Despite their efforts, Utah struggled to contain Phoenix’s offensive onslaught, especially in the critical moments of the game.
Phoenix set the tone early, establishing a 40-28 lead by the end of the first quarter, courtesy of Durant’s sharpshooting. While Utah managed to narrow the gap to three points early in the third quarter, Phoenix quickly countered with a decisive 13-0 run, bolstered by key three-pointers from Gordon and Beal, to firmly regain control of the game. The Suns entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable lead and maintained their advantage till the final buzzer.
Eric Gordon and Jusuf Nurkic also made significant contributions for the Suns, with Gordon shooting an efficient 7-of-8 from the field for 19 points, and Nurkic adding 16 points and eight rebounds. Grayson Allen, stepping up in Booker’s absence, recorded a career-high 14 assists, showcasing his versatility and playmaking abilities.
The game also followed a flurry of trade deadline activity for both teams, with the Suns acquiring Royce O’Neale and David Roddy, and the Jazz bringing in Kevin Knox II, Kira Lewis Jr., and Otto Porter Jr., though the new additions did not feature in Thursday’s contest.
As the Suns look ahead to their next challenge against Golden State on Saturday, they carry with them the momentum of a strong team performance and the flexibility demonstrated in adjusting to lineup changes. The Jazz, on the other hand, aim to regroup and capitalize on their new acquisitions as they prepare to host Golden State on Monday.
Thursday’s victory for Phoenix not only highlights their offensive depth and resilience in the face of key absences but also positions them as formidable contenders as the season progresses.
