In a stunning display of strength and determination, Indian youth athlete Sairaj Pardeshi clinched the gold medal in the 81 kg Youth Boys category at the 2024 AWF Asian Youth (Boys & Girls) and Junior (Men & Women) Weightlifting Championships. Pardeshi’s total lift of 310 kg, consisting of a 139 kg snatch and a 171 kg clean and jerk, secured his place at the top of the podium.
The event, held in Doha, Qatar, saw spirited performances from Indian lifters across various categories. Pardeshi’s victory adds to India’s growing prominence in international weightlifting and highlights the nation’s rising talent.
Other Notable Performances:
- Jyoshna Sabar set a new Asian Youth record in the 40 kg Youth Girls category with a total lift of 135 kg (60 kg snatch, 75 kg clean and jerk), earning her the gold medal.
- Payal dominated the 45 kg Youth Girls category with a total lift of 155 kg, claiming first place. She also secured a bronze medal in the Junior Women’s 45 kg category with the same total.
- Babulal Hembrom achieved third place in the 49 kg Youth Boys category, lifting a total of 197 kg.
- Koyel Bar took home a silver medal in the 55 kg Youth Girls category with a total lift of 182 kg.
- L. Nilam Devi earned a silver medal in the Junior Women’s 55 kg category with a total of 190 kg.
