The Houston Rockets pulled off an impressive 112-108 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, overcoming a 48-point performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo’s effort included 17 rebounds, marking his seventh consecutive double-double, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Bucks’ third loss in their first four games of 2024.

Alperen Sengun led the way for Houston with 21 points, while Jalen Green added 16 points. Fred VanVleet contributed 14 points and seven assists, and Jabari Smith Jr. had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Rockets held a significant 89-73 lead entering the fourth quarter, maintaining control despite Antetokounmpo’s dominant performance. Damian Lillard, struggling with his shooting, added 18 points and nine assists for the Bucks. Khris Middleton, on an off night, scored 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting.

Houston’s bench played a crucial role, outscoring Milwaukee’s 43-22. Veteran Jeff Green provided a season-high 16 points, with Cam Whitmore and Aaron Holiday contributing significantly off the bench.

Sengun acknowledged the team’s collective effort, especially in containing the Bucks, barring Antetokounmpo. “They’re a really good team. We did everything to stop them except Giannis,” Sengun said.

Rockets coach Ime Udoka praised his team’s defensive strategy, focusing on containing the Bucks’ supporting cast while acknowledging the challenge of guarding Antetokounmpo.

The win for Houston concluded a seven-game homestand with a 3-4 record, moving them to 18-16. They now embark on a six-game road trip against Eastern Conference opponents.

The Bucks, looking to rebound from this setback, will host the Utah Jazz next, while the Rockets face Miami on the road.

This victory for the Rockets not only demonstrates their potential to upset stronger teams but also highlights the importance of a balanced team effort in securing wins. Antetokounmpo’s standout performance for the Bucks, despite the loss, continues to underscore his status as one of the league’s top players.
