MIAMI, FL – Inter Miami CF has finalized the transfer of center back Leandro González Pírez to River Plate, confirming the Argentine defender’s permanent return to his native country’s prestigious club.
González Pírez, 31, originally made the move to River Plate on loan from Inter Miami nearly two years ago, a loan which included an option to buy. Having made a notable impact during his time in MLS, he leaves the league with a record of 5 goals and 11 assists in 141 regular-season appearances.
His MLS journey included a successful stint with Atlanta United from 2017 to 2019, during which time he contributed to the team’s MLS Cup victory in 2018 and received an All-Star selection in 2019. González Pírez also had a brief period at Liga MX’s Club Tijuana before joining Inter Miami for their inaugural season in 2020.
