Barrett’s Season-High 37 Points Leads Raptors Past Warriors, 133-118

SAN FRANCISCO — RJ Barrett’s standout performance, scoring a season-high 37 points, propelled the Toronto Raptors to a decisive 133-118 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night. Barrett, who recently joined the Raptors after a trade from the Knicks, showcased his adaptability and impact in just his fourth game with the team.

Stephen Curry had an unusually quiet night for the Warriors, scoring only nine points and missing all nine of his 3-point attempts. This marked one of Curry’s lowest scoring games of the season and a rare single-digit performance.

Barrett was efficient and effective, making 11 of his first 14 shots and finishing 13 for 20 from the field. He also contributed six rebounds and six assists, demonstrating his all-around play. Chris Boucher, a former Warrior, added 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench, bolstering the Raptors’ effort.

Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic praised Barrett’s performance, highlighting not just his scoring but also his unselfish play and effective playmaking. Barrett’s ability to attack the rim with force was a key aspect of Toronto’s game plan.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 25 points, but the lack of offensive rhythm from Curry was noticeable. The Warriors’ defense struggled to disrupt the Raptors, who managed to counter every threat posed by Golden State.

The Warriors were further impacted by the absence of veteran guard Chris Paul, who suffered a broken left hand in Friday’s game against Detroit, requiring surgery. Kevon Looney contributed 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench, and Draymond Green returned to the practice floor after a 12-game suspension.

Golden State’s shooting woes were evident as they faced a significant deficit at halftime, trailing 76-49. The Warriors shot just 39.2% in the first half and struggled from the 3-point line, finishing 14 for 46 from beyond the arc.

The Raptors’ forward Otto Porter Jr., a former Warrior, received a warm reception as he was presented with his 2022 championship ring before the game. Toronto dominated from the start, leading 7-0 early on and maintaining control throughout the game.

This loss ended the Warriors’ three-game home winning streak against the Raptors.

Looking ahead, the Raptors will face the Lakers on Tuesday night, while the Warriors host the Pelicans on Wednesday night.
