Boston, Jan 14, 2024 – Jayson Tatum’s ejection following back-to-back technical fouls became a focal point in the Boston Celtics’ commanding 145-113 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Despite the incident, the Celtics continued their exceptional home form, improving to an unprecedented 19-0 start at the TD Garden this season.

Tatum, who had already tallied 27 points and eight rebounds, was ejected in the fourth quarter during a moment of frustration. His first technical came after voicing displeasure over a missed foul call during an attempted dunk. The situation escalated as he continued to protest, leading to his second technical and eventual ejection.

Coach Joe Mazzulla expressed understanding of Tatum’s stance, emphasizing the importance of self-defense in the league. Tatum himself acknowledged the situation’s timing, stating the need to stand up for oneself, especially when the game’s outcome is nearly decided.

Jaylen Brown led the scoring for the Celtics with 32 points, contributing to the team’s staggering 26-game regular-season home winning streak dating back to last March. The Celtics’ response was a stark contrast to their 33-point loss to Milwaukee in the previous game, showcasing their resilience and dominance on home turf.

The Rockets, led by Cam Whitmore with 22 points and Alperen Sengun’s double-double, showed early promise but couldn’t sustain their performance. They now stand at a 19-19 record, reflecting a struggle to find consistent form.

The game also marked former Celtics coach Ime Udoka’s return to Boston since his suspension and subsequent firing due to inappropriate workplace behavior. Udoka, now coaching the Rockets, received a mixed reaction from the crowd. Jaylen Brown acknowledged Udoka’s influence, wishing him luck in his future endeavors.

The Celtics will look to continue their impressive run as they travel to Toronto, while the Rockets hope to bounce back in their upcoming game against Philadelphia.
