McAvoy’s Overtime Heroics Seal Bruins’ 4-3 Win Over Blues

St. Louis – Defenseman Charlie McAvoy’s clutch performance, including the game-winning goal in overtime, led the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Saturday. McAvoy’s decisive wrist shot in overtime capped a two-goal night, helping the Bruins extend their point streak to five games (2-0-3) despite recent challenges in closing out games.

Brad Marchand also played a pivotal role, scoring twice for Boston, while goalie Jeremy Swayman made 20 saves. The Bruins (25-8-9) showed resilience and determination to bounce back after three consecutive overtime losses.

The Blues (21-18-2), powered by goals from Jake Neighbours and Oskar Sundqvist, fought hard to tie the game but ultimately fell short. Goalie Jordan Binnington made 31 saves in a tough loss, despite St. Louis winning three of their last four games.

The game saw a series of lead changes, with Marchand putting Boston ahead early in the first period. The Blues responded with goals from Neighbours and Sundqvist, but Boston’s persistence paid off in the end.

Boston’s coach Jim Montgomery praised the team’s aggression in overtime and overall improvement in the last two periods, both offensively and defensively.

McAvoy’s overtime goal marked a significant achievement, surpassing Bruins legend Ray Bourque for the most overtime goals by a defenseman in team history. Marchand’s first goal of the game was also a milestone, marking his 900th career NHL point.

The Bruins’ ability to secure a win after a challenging road trip, including games against the Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes, and Vegas Golden Knights, highlights their resilience and potential as a top contender in the NHL.

For the Blues, the game serves as a reminder of the need for consistency and the ability to maintain leads late in games. Both teams will look to build on their performances as they continue through the season, with the Bruins aiming to sustain their winning form and the Blues seeking to bounce back from this setback.
