BOSTON, MA – The Denver Nuggets secured a narrow 102-100 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night, ending the Celtics’ 20-game home winning streak. Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with standout performances, scoring 35 and 34 points, respectively.
The game was a clash of potential NBA Finals contenders, with both teams showing their prowess. Murray highlighted the matchup as both teams threw “haymakers,” with Denver delivering the final punch. Jokic, the two-time NBA MVP, was particularly impressive, notching 12 rebounds and nine assists while efficiently shooting 14 of 22 from the field.
Jayson Tatum, who had the chance to tie the game in the closing moments, missed a contested fadeaway, finishing with 22 points and eight rebounds. Derrick White led the Celtics with 24 points, and Kristaps Porzingis added 21.
The Celtics, who opted not to double-team Jokic for most of the game, struggled to contain him. Nuggets coach Michael Malone praised the high-level performance of his All-Star players, emphasizing the importance of their effort against Boston’s strong defense.
Jokic’s performance was even more notable considering he played with a heavy heart following the sudden death of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milosevic. Murray commended Jokic’s ability to play exceptionally under emotional duress.
The game was tightly contested, featuring 13 lead changes and eight ties. Denver’s comeback in the third quarter and Murray’s efficiency in the final period were crucial to their victory.
