New Delhi, 29th September 2016: Rookie Siddhi Kapoor carded 1 over 73 in the final round to win the 14th Leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Delhi Golf Club here on Thursday. In a nail biting finish, Siddhi overcame a strong challenge from Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor, who finished second and third respectively, to claim her maiden professional title. The INR 7,00,000 event culminated today.
Kolkata’s Siddhi Kapoor had an indifferent start, carding three quick bogeys on the 1st, 3rd and 4th holes. She dropped three more shots on the 9th, 11thand 16th holes, but birdies on the 6th, 8th and 13th kept her in the hunt. She still needed something special on the final two holes and the 19 year old came good under pressure, carding birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to grab her first professional win. Her best performance before this event was an eighth place finish in the 10th Leg at KGA.
Overnight leader Amandeep Drall could not replicate her second round performance, carding 3 over 75 on the day to take the second position. She carded two birdies on the 1st and 6th holes with an equal number of bogeys on the 3rd and 7th in her front nine. The professional from Panchkula played a birdie less back nine, carding a double bogey on the 15th hole, followed by another dropped shot on the 16th, which ultimately proved to be costly. She finished with a total score of 221.
Delhi’s Vani Kapoor finished third with a total score of 222 after 54 holes. She started impressively, playing a bogey free front nine with a birdie on the 2ndhole. She carded two more birdies in the latter half on the 14th and 17th holes while dropping shots on the 10th, 13th and 16th to finish the round with a score of even par 72. Delhi’s Gaurika Bishnoi impressed in her first professional event, taking the fourth position with a total score of 224. Her round of 1 over 73 on the day included four birdies on the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8thholes along with bogeys on the 2nd, 4th, 13th, 15th and 16th.
Pune’s Shweta Galande and Delhi’s Mehar Atwal finished tied fifth with identical totals of 225. Shweta played a controlled round of even par 72 with a birdie and a bogey apiece on the 6th and 10th holes respectively. Mehar’s card of 4 over 76 included two birdies on the 9th and 12th holes along with six bogeys on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 15th and 17th.
Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi finished seventh with a total score of 227, followed by Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal and amateur Shreya Ghei in tied eighth position at 231.
The Tour now moves to the DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon for the 15thLeg to be played on 3rd, 5th – 7th October.
