Petrochimi opened Day 2 at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2016 in style by crushing ONGC of India, 95-51. The Iranians notched their second win in a row and handed the Indians their first defeat of the tournament.
James White and Gerald Robinson, Jr. did well for Petrochimi again, but it was Mehrad Atashi and Oshin Sahakian who stepped up big time, recording a combined 26 points. ONGC, meanwhile, was paced by the combined 27 points of Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and Amritpal Singh.
ONGC had good size, but they just didn’t have the depth to match up well with Petrochimi. The Iranians outrebounded the Indians, 56-29, and limited them to 34% field goal shooting. It was as lopsided as it could get in favor of Petrochimi.
ONGC will play Al-Rayyan (Qatar) tomorrow.
