ISL: Wonder goals headline the night as Kerala Blasters FC, Chennaiyin FC play out high-scoring draw

In a pulsating fixture under the lights of Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kerala Blasters FC and Chennaiyin FC shared the spoils in a high-octane 3-3 draw that had fans on the edge of their seats in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season.

The match was a spectacle from the onset, with the home crowd creating a vibrant atmosphere that was matched by the intensity on the pitch. Chennaiyin FC’s Rahim Ali and Jordan Murray, who were doubtful due to injury concerns, made an emphatic statement with Rahim scoring the sixth fastest goal in ISL history just 54 seconds into the game, setting the tone for what was to come.

Despite Chennaiyin FC’s strong start with Murray converting a penalty and adding a third, Kerala Blasters FC showed resilience. Their captain, Adrian Luna, from nearly 30 yards out, initiated a comeback with a strike that ricocheted off Kwame Peprah into the net. Dimitrios Diamantakos was the man of the moment for the Blasters, netting twice, including a stunning equalizer that had the whole stadium roaring in approval.

The match statistics revealed Kerala Blasters’ dominance in ball possession and touches, suggesting their control over the game’s tempo despite the equal scoreline. Chennaiyin FC, on the other hand, boasted a slight edge in passing accuracy and had fewer fouls, reflecting a disciplined approach.

Diamantakos, named the Key Performer of the Match, was instrumental in Kerala Blasters’ comeback. Having created multiple scoring chances and netting two critical goals, his performance was particularly noteworthy given his return from suspension.

Looking ahead, Kerala Blasters FC will face FC Goa at the Fatorda Stadium, while Chennaiyin FC will meet Jamshedpur FC away. Both teams will be eager to build on the momentum from this thrilling encounter.

The final scoreline stood at Kerala Blasters FC 3, with goals from Dimitrios Diamantakos (11’, 59’) and Kwame Peprah (38’), drawing with Chennaiyin FC 3, with Rahim Ali (1’) and Jordan Murray (13’, 24’) as their scorers. Both teams displayed immense spirit and skill, ensuring the ISL continues to be a showcase of enthralling football.
