PHILADELPHIA — The Chicago Bulls, led by Coby White’s 24 points, snapped the Philadelphia 76ers’ six-game winning streak with a hard-fought 108-104 victory Monday night. White’s standout performance, coupled with significant contributions from Nikola Vucevic and DeMar DeRozan, was pivotal in the Bulls’ success.
Vucevic, a former Sixer, delivered an impressive 23-point performance, while DeRozan added 15 points to the Bulls’ tally. Vucevic, who also grabbed eight rebounds and shot an efficient 10 for 18 from the floor, spoke about the team’s growing chemistry and momentum, despite their 11-17 record. The Bulls have found a rhythm, winning six of their last nine games, even in the absence of All-Star Zach LaVine, who is out with left foot inflammation.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan emphasized the team’s competitive spirit against stronger teams and the need for consistency. This victory highlighted the Bulls’ ability to respond under pressure and maintain composure throughout the game.
Joel Embiid led the 76ers with a formidable 40 points and 13 rebounds, marking his 11th consecutive game with at least 30 points and 10 boards. Tyrese Maxey also shone brightly, contributing 29 points. However, the rest of the Sixers struggled to make a significant impact, with no other player reaching double figures in scoring.
76ers coach Nick Nurse noted the team’s slight lag in defensive execution and the lack of strong individual performances that had characterized their previous victories. The Sixers had been dominant against sub-.500 teams, boasting a 12-0 record before this matchup.
The Bulls overcame an early 12-point deficit, thanks largely to White’s explosive first half, where he scored 16 points, helping Chicago build a 55-44 lead by halftime. White has been in exceptional form, averaging 22.9 points over the last nine games.
The Bulls extended their lead to 12 after three quarters. The Sixers made a spirited comeback, briefly taking an 89-87 lead on a Maxey 3-pointer. However, the Bulls responded with a decisive 13-2 run, establishing an eight-point lead with just three minutes remaining. DeRozan’s crucial free throws in the final moments and a strong defensive stand against Embiid in the closing seconds sealed the win for Chicago.
Donovan stressed the importance of teamwork and collective effort in the Bulls’ recent success, highlighting the significance of shared responsibility on the court.
The Bulls now look forward to hosting the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night, while the 76ers will face Minnesota at home on the same day.
