ITTF and Swiss Table Tennis Resolve Legal Dispute, Focus on Future Collaboration

In a significant development for the world of table tennis, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Swiss Table Tennis (STT) have amicably resolved a prolonged legal dispute involving Mr. Khalil Al-Mohannadi, the ITTF’s Senior Executive Vice President. This resolution, finalized on December 6, 2023, marks the end of a controversy that has lingered since 2021.

The dispute originated from allegations made by a former STT board member against Mr. Al-Mohannadi. These accusations, which were later deemed legally unfounded, had cast a shadow over the reputations of both Mr. Al-Mohannadi and the ITTF. The ensuing legal tussle not only damaged their public images but also led to substantial financial costs.

Freddy Oswald, the Vice-President of STT, expressed relief at reaching a bilateral settlement. He acknowledged the unwarranted accusations and extended a public apology to Mr. Al-Mohannadi and the ITTF. Oswald highlighted that the resolution and the public apology were significant steps taken by the new STT Board of Directors, which assumed office in March 2023. Their active involvement played a crucial role in bringing this long-standing issue to a satisfactory conclusion.

Mr. Khalil Al-Mohannadi, in his statement, expressed satisfaction with the resolution. He emphasized the importance of moving forward and focusing on the global development and growth of table tennis. His remarks underscored a commitment to collaboration and unity within the international table tennis community.

The details of the mutual agreement, signed in the presence of all parties, remain confidential. However, the resolution signifies a positive step towards healing and collaboration between two prominent organizations in the world of table tennis.

This development is a reminder of the challenges sports federations often face in maintaining their integrity and reputation. The resolution of this dispute not only closes a contentious chapter but also opens up new avenues for cooperation and progress in the sport.

As the international table tennis community looks ahead, the focus now shifts back to the sport itself. With renewed collaboration and a commitment to progress, the ITTF and STT are poised to contribute significantly to the development of table tennis on a global scale.
