Gilgeous-Alexander’s 40 Points Propel Thunder Past Nuggets 119-93

In an impressive display of offensive skill, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a resounding 119-93 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 40 points, including a critical 17 in the third quarter, were central to the Thunder’s success against a strong Nuggets team.

Marking his fifth 40-point game of the season, Gilgeous-Alexander was highly efficient, shooting 14 of 20 from the field and perfect from the free-throw line. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault praised his approach to the game, noting his ability to let the game come to him without forcing plays.

Oklahoma City’s win, their third in a row and eighth in the last ten games, is significant as it pushes them past Denver in the Northwest Division standings. This victory is notable as the Nuggets, who saw their six-game winning streak end, have only lost three home games this season, two of which were against the Thunder.

Gilgeous-Alexander acknowledged the quality of the Nuggets, emphasizing the motivation that comes from playing a championship-caliber team. Chet Holmgren also played a pivotal role for the Thunder, scoring the first 10 points of the game, finishing with 24 points, and being perfect from the 3-point range. His defensive presence was also felt with two blocks, following an eight-block performance against the Nuggets in December.

Despite an efficient shooting performance from Nikola Jokic, who scored 19 points on 9 of 10 shooting, the Nuggets couldn’t match the Thunder’s intensity. Jokic’s performance continued his remarkable shooting streak, but his seven turnovers were a concern addressed by Nuggets coach Michael Malone.

The Thunder solidified their lead with a 19-4 run in the third quarter, and Gilgeous-Alexander’s 11 points late in the period helped extend their advantage to 20 points entering the fourth. Despite attempts by the Nuggets to close the gap, the Thunder maintained their lead, bolstered by key 3-pointers from Jalen Williams and Kenrich Williams.

This win for Oklahoma City not only underscores their rising potential but also highlights their ability to compete against top-tier teams. The Thunder’s next challenge comes against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night, while the Nuggets will look to rebound against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
