Bruins Dominate Second Period, Defeat Devils 5-2

The Boston Bruins rallied with an impressive four-goal burst in the second period to secure a 5-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden on Saturday. David Pastrnak and Kevin Shattenkirk each scored twice, providing the offensive thrust needed to overturn an early deficit.

Linus Ullmark contributed significantly with 31 saves for Boston (21-7-6), helping the team build on their recent win and move past a prior four-game skid. “Everyone did a great job of resetting,” Shattenkirk reflected, emphasizing the team’s focus on building their game.

New Jersey (19-14-2), despite a strong start with goals from Nico Hischier and Luke Hughes, couldn’t sustain their momentum. Vitek Vanecek made 27 saves, but the Devils struggled to contain Boston’s surge in the second period. Tyler Toffoli had two assists, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the Bruins’ comeback.

Hischier’s early goal and Hughes’ continued scoring streak hinted at a promising game for the Devils, but Boston’s response, initiated by Jake DeBrusk, shifted the narrative. Pastrnak’s pair of goals, including a decisive power-play tally, and Shattenkirk’s double were key to Boston’s turnaround.

The Bruins’ coach, Jim Montgomery, praised the team’s spirit, noting their commitment to Bruins hockey. Despite injury scares to Charlie McAvoy and the Devils’ Timo Meier, the game was a showcase of Boston’s resilience and ability to capitalize on opportunities.

Boston’s win marks a return to form, as they demonstrated their capability to overcome early challenges and dominate crucial periods of play. For New Jersey, the game serves as a reminder of the need for consistency and the ability to respond to adversities, especially against strong opponents like the Bruins.
