Captain of Indian blind cricket team announced for Pak, SL Tri Series

Delhi [India], February 15, 2024: The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) in association with the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled on Thursday announced the captain and vice-captain of the Indian Men’s Cricket team for the Blind ahead of the upcoming Triangular series between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Dubai. Air Water has joined hands with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and Cricket Association for the Blind in India by being the official partner of the India Men’s Cricket team for the Blind for this series.

Indian men’s cricket team for the blind along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka will feature in a Triangular Series in Dubai from February 22 to February 25. Durga Rao Tompaki will captain the Indian Men’s while, Sunil Ramesh will be his deputy for the Tri-Series.

Speaking on the announcement ahead of the Tri-series, the Chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar said “Cricket for the Blind will grow only when we play against the good teams and win matches against the tough teams. This is an another triangular series and an opportunity to the players to play the tough games and bring laurels to the country. I would like to thank Ajay Kumar Reddy for his leadership skills and I am happy to announce the new captain and vice-captain of the Indian Men’s Cricket team for the Blind. Both are good and strong players and we are sure under their leadership cricket for the blind in India will bring more laurels to the Mother Land”

“It’s the biggest Honour and privilege to lead the Indian Team. I have played for the last 10 years and all my seniors and fellow teammates have helped to this day. I am grateful to all for having that faith in me and I am sure we all will work hard and make the country proud” said the Captain Durga Rao.

Debaraj Behera (B1) from Odisha, Sanjay Kumar Shah (B1) from Delhi and Magunta Sai (B2) from Karnataka have received maiden call to the National team for the Triangular series.

The coaching camp for the Indian men’s blind cricket team is being held from February 8 to February 20 in Bangalore. India will play Pakistan and Sri Lanka with one match each and the top 2 teams based on the points will play the finals on February 25.

CABI announces squad for Triangular series against Pakistan, Sri Lanka to be held in Dubai

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], February 3, 2024: Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled on Saturday announced the squad for the upcoming Triangular series between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to be held in Dubai.

Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the Blind along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka will feature in a Triangular Series in Dubai from February 22 to February 25,2024. Indian team will have 17-member squad for the Triangular series and players are chosen based on their performances in the 6th edition of Nagesh Trophy which concluded on Friday (Karnataka won the Nagesh Trophy beating Andhra Pradesh in finals at Nagpur).

Debaraj Behera (B1) from Odisha, Gudadappa (B1) from Karnataka, Sanjay Kumar Shah (B1) from Delhi and Magunta Sai (B2) from Karnataka have received maiden call to the National team for the Triangular series.

Dr Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Chairman, CABI said “The selection is a mix of experienced and new players. Their hard work and disciplined performances in Nagesh Trophy have paved the way into the Indian Team. The Results haven’t been positive in the recent years in the triangular tournaments for the Indian Team however the national tournament has provided the players to be better fit than ever.”

President of CABI Mr Buse Gowda said “the national tournament has provided new players and we have found the new talent which needs to be supported. 4 players have received the maiden call up. CABI believes that training along with exposure will enhance their skills to make the country proud.”

Nagesh Trophy: Karnataka to face Odisha, Andhra to clash against Gujarat in Semi Finals of Nagesh Trophy

Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], January 31, 2023: Karnataka will lock horns with Odisha while Andhra Pradesh clash against Gujarat on Thursday in the semi-finals of the ongoing IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy- Men’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2023-24 got underway in Nagpur.

Karnataka, Delhi, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh registered wins on Wednesday on the last day of the Super 8 stage of the Nagesh Trophy here. Now the semi-final will be played among the four qualified teams on Thursday.

In Group A, Andhra Pradesh with six points and Odisha with 4 points finished as the top two teams. In Group B, Karnataka with six points and Gujarat with four points finished as the top two teams.

Karnataka won all their three games in the Super 8 stage. On Wednesday, Karnataka defeated Gujarat by 7 wickets. Opting to field first, Karnataka restricted Gujarat to 130/9 and then chased down the target in the 14th over.

Fighting the dead rubber, Delhi also registered a win against Telangana by 9 wickets to conclude their journey on a high in the Nagesh Trophy. In the morning matches, Rajasthan defeated Uttar Pradesh by 3 wickets while Andhra Pradesh thrashed Odisha by 9 wickets in the Super 8 stage.

In the first semi-final, Andhra Pradesh will face Gujarat while in the second semi-final, Karnataka will meet Odisha on Thursday.

Cricket Association for the Blind in India, Cricket Association for the Blind in Vidarbha and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled are organising the semi-final and final matches at Nagpur.   This is for the first time that Nagesh Trophy is being played in Nagpur. 

The Super 8 stage league matches were played on the first 3 days and the semi-finals will be played on Thursday. The finals of the megaevent will take place on February 2 in Nagpur.

Nagesh Trophy was launched in the memory of Late Shri SP Nagesh, Founder President, Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Founder Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The launch of the tournament brought together the entire blind cricket community into one huge platform, by creating a milestone in the blind cricket history.   

Nagesh Trophy: Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh register wins in Super 8 stage matches at the orange city

Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], January 30, 2023: Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh registered wins on Tuesday in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy- Men’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2023-24 got underway in Nagpur.

Odisha, Telangana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka locked horns in the knockout matches on Wednesday. All the winning teams are currently leading the charts in their respective Groups.

In the opening match on Day 2, Karnataka beat Rajasthan by 89 runs. Put into bat first by Rajasthan, Karnataka scored a mammoth 267/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Prakash Jyaramaiah and Sunil Ramesh both scored centuries. In reply, Rajasthan managed 178/4. Prakash Jyaramaiah was adjudged the player of the match.

In the other morning encounter, Odisha beat Delhi by 17 runs. Batting first, Odisha scored 185/6 and then restricted Delhi to 168/8. Pankaj Bhue of Odisha scored the highest 85 in 59 balls and was adjudged the player of the match.

In the afternoon matches, Andhra Pradesh defeated Telangana by 8 wickets. T Durga Rao was adjusdged player of the match.  Gujarat drubbed Uttar Pradesh by 7 wickets. Dinesh Rathva was adjudged the player of the match.   In Group A, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have won both their matches while Delhi and Telangana have lost the two games.

In Group B, Karnataka and Gujarat have won both their matches, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have lost the two games. The semi-finals slots have been almost booked but the all eight teams will meet again on Day 3 on Wednesday.

Nagesh Trophy: Telangana, Uttar Pradesh qualify for Super 8 Stage

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 16, 2023: Telangana on Tuesday beat Jammu & Kashmir by 1 run in the eliminator match of the ongoing 6th edition of the IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy – Men’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2023-24 at JB Cricket Ground in Hyderabad.

With this win, Telangana qualified for the Super 8 stage of the Nagesh Trophy and became the 8th team to do so after Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Opting to bat first, Telangana smashed 101/5 in the 10 overs with Nikhil Bathula scoring 54 of 32 balls. Jammu & Kashmir started off well with Mohd Azeem smashing each and every corner of the ground. However, Telangana restricted them at 100, hence winning the match by 1 run. Nikhil Bathula was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

Earlier on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh defeated Tripura by 138 runs at Manas Sports Academy in Lucknow. Opting to bat first, Uttar Pradesh scored 180 in the allotted 20 overs and then restricted Tripura to 42/10. Chandan Kumar who scored 45 off 32 balls was named as the Player of the Match.

Following the conclusion of the League Stage in December 2023, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi had qualified for the Super 8 stage following their exemplary performances. Uttar Pradesh and Tripura, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir locked horns in the Eliminator games.

Super 8 stage of Nagesh Trophy will begin on January 29 following an inauguration in Nagpur on January 28. The Super 8 stage will run for three days and the semi-finals will be played on February 1. The finals of the megaevent will take place on February 2 in Nagpur.

Odisha crowned champions of Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for Blind 2024

Hubli (Karnataka) [India], January 12:Odisha on Friday were crowned champions of the Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 following a win against Karnataka in the finals here at Karnataka Gymkhana Cricket Ground.

Odisha defeated Karnataka by 6 wickets to win the coveted trophy. Chasing a paltry 94 runs in the final, Odisha suffered early blows with skipper Phula Saren getting out for a golden duck. But Jamuna Rani Tudu and Basanti Hansda scored 24 and 34 runs respectively to take Odisha home.

Jhili Birua was named as the Player of the Match in the final. Meanwhile, Player of the series in B1 category was awarded to Simu Das from Rajasthan, B2 Category to Menka Kumari from Delhi and B3 category to Jhili Birua. The players of the series were awarded with INR 10000/- cash prize and the trophy. The runners were awarded with INR 80000/- with the trophy. Winners were awarded INR 104000/-  with the trophy.

Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Chairman – Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) said, “I congratulate the winners and all the teams for their participation. The women’s National has given new talent and CABI is happy to grab the talent to nurture them. I would like to announce the Zonal Tournament in Delhi where the best players from these states will represent their respective zones. The tournament will be held in Delhi in the month of March.”

Hon’ble Shri Sandeep Patil the chief guest said, “Thank you CABI and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled for inviting me and I feel the national tournament is the testimony that a person with Vision always finds ways to succeed.”

Coming to the finals, put into bat first, Karnataka got off to a bad start as the side lost five wickets in the powerplay. Captain Varsha along with four more players all departed cheaply. Star batter Deepika did stay a little longer on the crease having scored 16 runs in 29 balls but her stint was cut short by Jamuna Rani Tudu.

Karnataka, who had played clinically well in the ongoing tournament, found themselves struggling for runs in the finals. The side kept losing wickets at regular intervals were found reeling at 44/6 in the eighth over.

The falling of wickets didn’t stop but Divakka and Renuka Rajput contributions made sure Karnataka crossed the 90-run mark. The side however was bundled out for 93 in the 19th over and Odisha chased down the target quiet comfortably.

The tournament started on Monday with 16 teams sixteen teams stepping onto the fields in Hubli-Dharwad to battle for the glory. The League stage lasted for 3 days and Karnataka, Delhi, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh qualified for the semi-finals.

While Karnataka defeated Delhi, Odisha beat Andhra Pradesh in the semi-finals. A total of 27 matches were played in the IndusInd Bank Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024.

Karnataka to face Odisha in finals of Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for Blind

Hubli (Karnataka) [India], January 11:Karnataka defeated Delhi by 7 wickets in the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 on Thursday and will now face Odisha in the ultimate showdown here at Karnataka Gymkhana Cricket Ground.

Karnataka and Odisha will lock horns in the finals of Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 on Friday on the occasion of National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti. Meanwhile, Odisha defeated Andhra Pradesh by 19 runs in the first semi-final on Thursday.

In the second semi-final, Karnataka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Delhi got off to a bad start and lost half of their side for 65 runs inside 10 overs. Manika and Deepmala Kumari, then stitched a 67-run stand and took Delhi’s total to 132/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 133, Karnataka suffered early blows but Deepika TC smashed a fifty (63) while Laxmi P scored 29 off 25 balls to help side get over the line. Karnataka won the match with 36 balls to spare. Deepika was named as the Player of the Match.

In the first semi-final, Odisha chose to bat first, amassing a formidable total of 183/3 in their allotted 20 overs, propelled by the stellar performances of Jhili Birua and Muni Purty.

The Andhra Pradesh side, despite their best efforts, fell short, managing 164/6 in 20 overs. Jhili Birua, with her brilliant 82 runs off 55 balls was awarded the Player of the Match.

With Karnataka and Odisha securing their places in the finals, all eyes are set on the ultimate showdown scheduled for National Youth Day. Cricket fans anticipate a thrilling clash as the two teams brimming with talent gear up for the match.

Karnataka to face Delhi and Odisha to clash against Andhra Pradesh in semis of Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for Blind 2024 

Hubli (Karnataka) [India], January 10:Karnataka will lock horns with Delhi while Odisha will face Andhra Pradesh in the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 on Thursday.

Both matches will be played on the same day here at Karnataka Gymkhana Cricket Ground. Odisha vs Andhra Pradesh will kick start the semi-finals proceedings at 9:00 am while Karnataka and Delhi will meet in the afternoon at same location.

All the four semi-finalists on Wednesday won their respective games to reach the next stage of the ongoing Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024.

For Karnataka it was a cake walk as the side thrashed Assam by nine wickets at SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital Cricket Ground in Dharwad. Put into bat first by Karnataka, Assam scored just 57 runs in 20 overs. Karnataka chased down the target in the 6th over. Laxmi P was named as the Player of the Match.

Delhi defeated West Bengal by 116 runs at Indian Railways Cricket Ground in Hubli. Delhi scored 192/3 and bundled out West Bengal for 76. Manika was named as the Player of the Match. Delhi reached semis by virtue of a better net run rate.

Odisha and Andhra Pradesh defeated Madhya Pradesh and Haryana respectively in Hubli. Both the teams remained undefeated in their respective Groups and will kick start the semi-final proceedings on Thursday.

The League stage has ended today. A total of 27 matches is being played in the IndusInd Bank Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024. The final showdown, coinciding with National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti, is set for January 12, promising a fitting culmination to this remarkable tournament.

Arjuna Award to Ajay Kumar Reddy Captain of Indian Blind Cricket Team

New Delhi [India], January 9: Visually impaired cricketer and captain of Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the Blind Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy on Tuesday was conferred with Prestigious Arjuna Award from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports. Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games is given for good performance over a period of the previous three years and for showing qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.

Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy (Blind Cricket) is among the 26 sportspersons who were honoured with Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2023. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports last month had announced the National Sports Awards 2023. The nominated stars received their awards from the President of India.

“I am overwhelmed with this recognition. I dedicate this award to my Parents and Family members for their support. I also would like to thank Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and all the players with whom I have played,” Ajay Reddy said in a statement.

Congratulating Arjuna awardee Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Chairman- Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) said “It is an honour and proud moment for all the blind cricketers across the world. It is the good recognition for the hard work and dedication in taking Cricket for the Blind to the next level through various achievements by the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the blind under the leadership of Ajay Reddy. CABI is happy that cricket for the blind is getting the recognition with other major sports.”

Following the Award ceremony, Illuri Ajay Reddy, the chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar and CABI secretary Shailender Yadav also met Indian pacer Mohammad Shami. Shami is also among the 26 sportspersons who were honoured with Arjuna Award on Tuesday.

Illuri Ajay Reddy is currently working in SBI regional office in Bangalore. He is a B2 category player, who is representing India since 2010. He has been part of winning two ODI World Cups, 3 T20 world cups, 1 Asia Cup.

Ajay is the captain of the Indian cricket team for the blind since 2016. Under his captaincy Team India has won 1 ODI world cup, 2 T20 world cups, 1 Asia Cup and the Silver Medal in IBSA World Games and many bilateral and triangular Series.

Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) acknowledges the great support received from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports through this award. The continuous support and patronage received from the esteemed ministry has helped CABI to achieve this milestone.

Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 kicks off

Hubli (Karnataka) [India], January 8:TheWomen’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 began on Monday with sixteen teams stepping onto the fields in Hubli-Dharwad to kick-start the showpiece event.

Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Rajasthan all won their respective matches on Day 1 of the league stage. Winning the toss Jharkhand chose to bat and was able to score 116/6 in the allotted 2 overs. Karnataka defeated Jharkhand by eight wickets at Karnataka Gymkhana Ground in Hubli. Jharkhand scored 116/6 in 20 overs but Karnataka chased down the target in the 12th over.  Karnataka’s Deepika was named as the Player of the Match for quick score of 37 of 28 balls. Karnataka will now face Maharashtra at SDM Dental College Cricket Ground.

Morning matches

Odisha defeated Telangana by eight wickets at Indian Railways Cricket Ground in Hubli. Batting first Telangana was folded for 50 runs and Odisha got over the line in just five overs. Odisha’s Basanti Hansda was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

Andhra Pradesh thrashed Chandigarh by 141 runs at Bdk Cricket Ground in Hubli. Andhra Pradesh slammed 254/3 in allotted 20 overs and then bundled out Chandigarh for 113 runs. Ramya Chodipilli was named as the Player of the Match.

West Bengal defeated Tamil Nadu by eight wickets at Sdm College Of Medical Sciences And Hospital Cricket Ground in Dharwad. Tamil Nadu scored 141 but West Bengal chased down the target in the 19th over. Pratima Ghosh was named as the Player of the Match.

Afternoon matches

Madhya Pradesh defeated Gujarat by 95 runs at Indian Railways Cricket Ground in Hubli. Batting first Madhya Pradesh scored 172/5 in 20 overs and then restricted Gujarat to 77/10. Sushma Patel was named as the Player of the Match      .

Maharashtra thrashed Assam by 10 wickets at Sdm College Of Medical Sciences And Hospital Cricket Ground in Dharwad. Assam were folded for 89 runs and then Maharashtra completed the formalities in 11 overs. Ganga Kadam was named as the Player of the Match.

Kerala defeated Delhi by seven wickets Karnataka Gymkhana Ground in Hubli. Batting first Delhi scored 171/1 but Kerala chased down the target with four balls to spare. Santhosh P was named as the Player of the Match.

Rajasthan thrashed Haryana by 186 runs at Bdk Cricket Ground, in Hubli. Rajasthan slammed 240 runs in 20 overs and then restricted Haryana to 54/10. Simu Das was named as the Player of the Match.

On Sunday, the Grand inauguration of the Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 was held here at the Indira Glass House Hubli in the august presence of Shri. The Inauguration of IndusInd Bank Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 was held at Hubli with Grandeur

Hubli (Karnataka) [India], January 7:The Grand inauguration of the Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024 was held here at the Indira Glass House Hubli in the august presence of Shri. Santosh Lad, Minister of Labour Government of Karnataka, Shri. Jagadish Shettar Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and the CABI officials.

Sixteen teams are set to ignite the cricketing fervor as they step onto the fields in Hubli-Dharwad on Monday to kick start the Women’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2024. The 16 teams will compete at Karnataka Gymkhana Cricket Ground, Indian Railways Cricket Ground, BDK Cricket Ground, and SDM Cricket Ground respectively.  

Welcoming the gathering Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Chairman, Cricket Association for the Blind in India(CABI) said “Cricket for the Blind has travelled a long way and it is CABI’s responsibility to take this game to the cities where cricket for the blind is unheard off. I place on record the great support received from the respective State and Central governments over the years for the promotion of cricket for the Blind. Let this tournament bring the best talent.”

The President of CABI, Mr Buse Gowda addressed the gathering with the details of the tournament and the journey of Women’s Cricket for the Blind.

Arjuna award to be conferred to Mr Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy

Bengaluru, Karnataka, December 20: Visually impaired cricketer and captain of Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the Blind Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy will be conferred with Prestigious Arjuna Award from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, 2024.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on Wednesday announced the National Sports Awards 2023. Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy (Blind Cricket) is among the 26 sportspersons selected for Arjuna Awards for outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2023.

“Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2023 today. The awardees will receive their awards from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 09th January, 2024 (Tuesday) at 1100 hours,” the Sports Ministry said in an official statement.

Illuri Ajay Reddy, who is currently working in SBI regional office in Bangalore described it as the “best moment” of his life.

“It is the best moment of my life. Cricket has given me this opportunity and I feel blessed right now. I want to dedicate the Arjuna Award to my parents for their sacrifices, support and to all my fellow teammates, who played under the guidance of Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI). I feel this is the best recognition which will help Cricket for the Blind to be promoted,” Ajay Reddy said in a statement.

The chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar said that the recognition will help in the promotion of visually impaired cricket in India.

“This is the best day for Cricket for the Blind in India. After many years, we are being recognised for this award. This award not only recognises Ajay Reddy but also the entire visually impaired community. This will go on a long way to promote cricket for blind across the country and more and more people will get inspired to take up the cricket as the sport,” Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar said.

Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy is a B2 category player, who is representing India since 2010. He has been part of winning two ODI World Cups, 3 T20 world cups, 1 Asia Cup. He is the captain of the Indian cricket team for the blind since 2016. Under his captaincy Team India has won 1 ODI world cup, 2 T20 world cups, 1 Asia Cup and the Silver Medal in IBSA World Games and many bilateral and triangular Series.

National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports. Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games is given for good performance over a period of the previous four years and for showing qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.

Nagesh Trophy: Kerala, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana secure wins as matches in Kochi and Chandigarh get underway

Kochi / Chandigarh [India], December 18, 2023:  Kerala, Odisha in Group C while Madhya Pradesh, Telangana in Group D registered wins on Monday here in the ongoing 6th edition of IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy – Men’s National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind 2023-24.

The Kochi and Chandigarh-leg started simultaneously on Monday with Odisha, Jharkhand, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar in Group C and Gujarat, Chandigarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana in Group D competing respectively.

In Group C’s opening match held in Kochi, Kerala emerged victorious, defeating Bihar by 35 runs. Kerala set a target of 126/6 in 13 overs, and Bihar could only manage 91/4 in response. The standout performer, Md Farhan, who scored 51 runs in 34 balls, earned the well-deserved title of Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, in another Group C encounter, Odisha displayed dominance by thrashing Jharkhand with a convincing nine-wicket victory. Jharkhand, opting to bat first, faltered at 39/10 in the 17th over, allowing Odisha to chase down the target in just 21 balls. Debaraj Behera, who claimed three wickets, was named the Player of the Match.

Shifting the focus to Group D, the first match witnessed a high-scoring thriller as Madhya Pradesh secured a six-wicket win against Chandigarh. Chandigarh, batting first, posted a formidable total of 208/8 in 20 overs. However, Madhya Pradesh successfully chased down the target in the 18th over, propelled by Rampal Uike’s match-winning century. Rampal earned the Player of the Match honor for his stellar performance.

In the second Group D match, Telangana emerged victorious over West Bengal by 27 runs in a run-filled contest in Chandigarh. Telangana posted a commanding total of 262/5 in 20 overs, and despite Surojit Ghora’s impressive 129 runs in 72 balls for West Bengal, Telangana’s K Shiva Shankar was awarded the Player of the Match for his well-made 86.

Jammu & Kashmir (Group E) and Karnataka (Group B) currently tops their respective Groups. In Group C, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha, Kerala will lock horns with each other on Tuesday while in Group D Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chandigarh, West Bengal will meet on the same day.

The ongoing 6th edition of Nagesh Trophy began on November 23 with the four teams of Group E battling out at the University of Jammu. The tournament will run till February 02, 2024 and the League stage will be played till December 29, 2023.

Nagesh Trophy was launched in the memory of Late Shri SP Nagesh, Founder President, Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Founder Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The launch of the tournament brought together the entire blind cricket community into one huge platform, by creating a milestone in the blind cricket history.  

Indian women’s cricket team for the blind meets Harmanpreet Kaur, Amol Muzumdar after series win over Nepal

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 14: Indian Women’s Cricket Team for the Blind along with chairman of Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar on Thursday met Harmanpreet Kaur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur and coach of Indian women’s team Amol Muzumdar here at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Indian women’s team is currently locking horns with England in the one-off Test here. On Thursday, Indian batters shone as the hosts scored 410 runs for the loss of seven wickets on Day One of the Only Test against England.

Following the conclusion of the day’s play, Harmanpreet Kaur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur and coach Amol Muzumdar took time to meet and appreciate the Indian women’s blind cricket team, currently engaged in the Fedfina Women’s Bilateral Cricket Series for the Blind 2023 against Nepal. The blind cricket team emerged victorious in the fourth T20 against Nepal, securing the bilateral series 3-1, with one match remaining.

Indian women’s cricket team for the blind on Thursday defeated Nepal in the fourth T20 and clinched the bilateral series 3-1 with one match to go. Harmanpreet, who is also the brand ambassador for the women’s cricket for the blind, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Jemimah Rodrigues congratulated the Indian team for the win over Nepal and also for their gold medal win in IBSA World Games.

The meeting was a source of inspiration for the visually impaired cricketers, who were thrilled to interact with their role models. CABI chairman Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar described it as an “ecstatic moment” for the visually impaired cricketers.

“Our girls had the chance to sit and cheer for the Indian women’s team. When the Indian team hit the 400th run we were there cheering for our team. It was a delighted moment for the Blind Women’s cricket team. Harmanpreet was very happy to meet our visually impaired girls and was willing to extend all possible support,” Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar said in a statement.

Coming to the Nepal series, India had won the first two T20s but the visitors came back in the third game on Wednesday, denying India a series win. However, India on Thursday won the fourth T20 to clinch the series with 3-1 with one match to go. India and Nepal will now meet in the fifth T20 on Friday.

Women’s Blind Cricket: India thrashes Nepal and clinches the series

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 14: India on Thursday defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the fourth T20 despite captain Binita Pun’s show with the bat here at Police Gymkhana Cricket Ground in the first-ever Fedfina Women’s Bilateral Cricket Series for the Blind 2023.

Put into bat first, Nepal scored 165/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Sushma Patel, Ravanni, Basanti Hansda and Simu Das all scored as India chased down the target in the 19th over. With this win, India clinched the five match series 3-1 with last match to go on Friday.

Batting first, Binita Pun, who has been the highest run scorer in the ongoing series, provided Nepal a firing start. Mankeshi Chaudhary and Binita built a 101-run stand in the first 12 overs.

Binta (69) departed in the 14th over leaving Nepal at 116/2 but Srijana Pariyar continued the scoreboard. However, India bounced back in the game with flurry of wickets as Nepal lost 4 batters in the last four overs and were only able to score 165/6 after a good start.

Chasing 166, Sushma Patel and Ravanni completed India’s fifty inside six overs. But Ravanni was sent back to the dugout in the seventh over by Prativa Rai. Sushma and Basanti Hansda then stitched a 66-run stand to continue India’s chase.

India lost Sushma and Basanti Hansda in the 14th and 16th over respectively but that didn’t dent the chase and the side chased down the target quite comfortably in the 19th over.

Sushma Patel, who scored 45 runs in 37 balls, was adjudged as the Player of the Match. India and Nepal will now meet in the fifth T20 on Friday. Having already won the series 3-1, the Friday’s T20 will be a dead rubber.

India had won the first two T20s but Nepal came back in the third game on Wednesday, denying India a series win. However, India on Thursday won the fourth T20 to clinch the series with 3-1 with one match to go.

Women’s Blind Cricket: Nepal beat India by 10 wickets in the 3rd T20, keeps hope alive in the series

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 13: Captain Binita Pun and Mankeshi Chaudhary smashed scintillating fifties as Nepal defeated India by 10 wickets in the third T20 on Wednesday here at Police Gymkhana Cricket Ground in the first-ever Fedfina Women’s Bilateral Cricket Series for the Blind 2023.

In a must win encounter for Nepal, the visiting team came firing on all cylinders in the third match to defeat India by 10 wickets. Binita (78) and Mankeshi (75) didn’t allow Indian bowlers to settle and chased down the target in the 20th over quite comfortably.

India scored 171/4 in the allotted 20 overs and were not able to claim a series win as Nepal got over the line without losing wickets. Binita, who is currently the leading run scorer for Nepal in the series, was adjudged as Player of the Match. With this win, Nepal has kept their hope alive and India now leads the series by 2-1 with two more matches to go this week.

Opting to bat first India got off to a good start with Simu Das leading the charge as the side went past the 30-run mark in four overs. Nepal’s Sarita Ghimire ran out Sushma Patel to put break on the scoring spree.

India lost two wickets after the power play as Simranjeet Kaur and Phula Saren departed without causing much trouble to the scoreboard as the Women in Blue were reduced to 67/3 in the ninth over.

Simu Das however continued her onslaught and took India score to 100/4 in the 12th over despite losing Ravanni (14). With nine overs left and six wickets in hand, Sunita Srathe and Simu Das built a 76-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket as India scored 171/4 in the allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 172, Binita and Mankeshi stitched a 174-run stand to help Nepal defeat India by 10 wickets in the third T20. India and Nepal will now face each other in the fourth T20 match on Thursday with an aim to level the series.
